Initially, commitfa9ee9c4b9("include/linux/err.h: add a function to cast error-pointers to a return value") from Uwe Kleine-König introduced PTR_RET in 03/2011. Then, in 07/2013, commit6e8b8726ad("PTR_RET is now PTR_ERR_OR_ZERO") from Rusty Russell renamed PTR_RET to PTR_ERR_OR_ZERO, and left PTR_RET as deprecated-marked alias. After six years since the renaming and various repeated cleanups in the meantime, it is time to finally remove the deprecated PTR_RET for good. Linux kernel
============
There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
