Since -Wmaybe-uninitialized was introduced by GCC 4.7, we have patched various false positives: - commite74fc973b6("Turn off -Wmaybe-uninitialized when building with -Os") turned off this option for -Os. - commit815eb71e71("Kbuild: disable 'maybe-uninitialized' warning for CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES") turned off this option for CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - commita76bcf557e("Kbuild: enable -Wmaybe-uninitialized warning for "make W=1"") turned off this option for GCC < 4.9 Arnd provided more explanation in https://lkml.org/lkml/2017/3/14/903 I think this looks better by shifting the logic from Makefile to Kconfig. Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
