This is to simplify upcoming changes. The slow-path is something that currently occurs during bootstrap of the BAR2 VMM, while backing up an object during suspend/resume, or when BAR2 address space runs out. The latter is a real problem that can happen at runtime, and occurs in Fedora 26 already (due to some change that causes a lot of channels to be created at login), so ideally we'd prefer not to make it any slower. We'd also like suspend/resume speed to not suffer. Upcoming commits will solve those problems in a better way, making the extra overhead of moving the locking here a non-issue. Linux kernel ============ This file was moved to Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst Please notice that there are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
