As detailed in https://www.shellcheck.net/wiki/SC2006: The use of `...` is legacy syntax with several issues: 1. It has a series of undefined behaviors related to quoting in POSIX. 2. It imposes a custom escaping mode with surprising results. 3. It's exceptionally hard to nest. $(...) command substitution has none of these problems, and is therefore strongly encouraged. There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
