 "Make boot time huge page allocation work nicely with kexec handover.

  Today allocation of gigantic pages in HugeTLB cannot work reliably
  with kexec handover (KHO):

   - HugeTLB allocates gigantic pages using memblock and autoscaling of
     KHO scratch accounts for these allocations. When gigantic pages
     occupy half of the memory of more, KHO fails to allocate its
     scratch memory.

   - After kexec handover, memblock allocations exclusively use KHO
     scratch that is not supposed to contain preserved memory. This
     essentially blocks preservation of HugeTLB with gigantic pages.

  Extend early memory pools available for KHO kernel with areas that are
  guaranteed not to contain preserved memory"

   Refactor the DAMON core API functions to guarantee that all contexts

   Add checks to ensure tail_page->private is zero when freeing compound
   or high-order pages and when promoting tail pages during large folio

   the removal of redundant private field clearing inside
   prep_compound_tail()

 - "mm: drop redundant lru_add_drain in anon folio reuse paths" (Barry
   Song)

   Eliminate redundant lru_add_drain() calls in
   wp_can_reuse_anon_folio() and do_swap_page() to reduce LRU lock
   contention and system overhead

   By validating folio refcounts against the LRU cache before draining
   and removing unnecessary drains in the swap path, it achieves up to a
   30.5% reduction in drain calls during heavy swap workloads

 - "mm: clean up folio LRU and swap declarations" (Jianyue Wu)

   Reorganize folio LRU and swap code by relocating page-cluster state
   to mm/swap_state.c, renaming mm/swap.c to mm/folio.c, and moving
   MM-internal reclaim declarations into mm/internal.h.

 - "userfaultfd: working set tracking for VM guest memory" (Kiryl
   Shutsemau)

   Add userfaultfd support for tracking the working set of VM guest
   memory, so a VMM can identify hot pages and reclaim cold ones to
   tiered or remote storage

 - "mm: remove CONFIG_HAVE_BOOTMEM_INFO_NODE (Part 2)" (David
   Hildenbrand)

   Remove the remaining pieces of CONFIG_HAVE_BOOTMEM_INFO_NODE,
   performing some smaller cleanups around freeing of reserved vmemmap
   pages on the way.

 - "mm/damon: update probe hits for runtime parameter commits" (SJ Park)

   Ensure that DAMON's probe_hits attribute counter is properly updated
   when monitoring intervals are changed at runtime, matching the
   behavior of nr_accesses. To achieve this, it refactors and renames
   existing helper functions for shared use, applies the updates to
   probe_hits, and handles edge cases in damon_probe_hits_mvsum() to
   maintain measurement accuracy.

 - "KSM: performance optimizations for rmap_walk_ksm" (xu xin)

   Resolve a severe KSM reverse-mapping performance bottleneck where
   thousands of split VMAs sharing a single anon_vma cause extended lock
   contention.

   By adding an interval-filtering check during the rmap walk, it
   reduces worst-case anon_vma lock hold times from over 500ms down to
   under 2ms, preventing application freezes and latency spikes under
   memory pressure.

 - "mm: split a couple of headers from internal.h" (Mike Rapoport)

   Split declarations related to mm_init, memblock, vmalloc and sparse
   into new headers

 - "KSM: use linear_page_index in collect_procs_ksm()" (xu xin)

   Apply the interval tree optimization from rmap_walk_ksm() to
   collect_procs_ksm() to avoid iterating over non-matching VMAs during
   KSM memory error handling.

   It hoists loop-invariant address initialization and restricts the
   anon_vma_interval_tree_foreach walk to a targeted page offset range,
   reducing redundant checks and improving lookup efficiency.

 - "selftests/mm: avoid false failures in hugetlb and KSM tests" (Sayali
   Patil)

   Fix issues in the hugetlb and KSM MM selftest categories that can
   report failures when the prerequisites for the tests are not
   satisfied

 - "mm/damon: introduce data attributes only monitoring" (SJ Park)

   Introduce attribute-weighted region management in DAMON, allowing
   users to prioritize specific data attributes (such as page sizes or
   cgroups) over or instead of access monitoring.

   By assigning weights to attribute probes, DAMON can completely
   disable access tracking and adjust monitoring regions based on
   weighted probe-hit counters to optimize monitoring quality for
   attribute-focused workloads.

 - "mm/hmm: Add mmap lock-drop support for userfaultfd-backed mappings"
   (Stanislav Kinsburskii)

   Extend hmm_range_fault() to support userfaultfd-backed regions by
   allowing the mmap lock to be dropped during fault handling via a new
   hmm_range_fault_locked() helper.

   By accepting a locked pointer and signaling retry status when lock
   release occurs, it enables page fault resolution in userfaultfd
   regions while preserving backward compatibility for existing callers.

 - "mm: make VMA page offset handling more consistent" (Lorenzo Stoakes)

   Clean up and standardize how vma->vm_pgoff is accessed and
   manipulated across file-backed and anonymous mappings in the kernel

   It introduces dedicated helper functions such as vma_start_pgoff(),
   vma_end_pgoff(), vma_set_pgoff() and linear_page_delta() while
   renaming rmap interval tree helpers to better reflect their
   functionality.

   These changes establish a cleaner foundation for future work that
   will unify virtual page offset indexing for all anonymous and CoW'd
   folios.

 - "mm: handle device-private PMDs in walk callbacks" (Usama Arif)

   Address kernel panics and state corruption caused by MM walk
   callbacks reaching non-present device-private PMD swap entries
   created during HMM migrations

   It ensures that functions which acquire pmd_trans_huge_lock()
   properly recognize device-private PMDs instead of assuming a present
   THP or a standard migration entry.

 - "mm/rmap: Refactor try_to_unmap_one" (Dev Jain)

   Refactor try_to_unmap_one by modularizing Hugetlb,
   anonymous-lazyfree, and anonymous-swapbacked logic into dedicated
   functions, laying the structural groundwork for batched anonymous
   large folio unmapping.

 - "Docs/ABI/damon: sysfs ABI document fixes and additions" (Song Hu)

   Fix typos and fills in missing entries in the DAMON sysfs ABI
   document

 - "dax/kmem: atomic whole-device hotplug via sysfs" (Gregory Price)

   Introduce an atomic sysfs state attribute and supporting DAX/MM
   infrastructure to prevent userland races when offlining and removing
   entire memory regions

   By adding an unplugged state alongside standard online modes, it
   enables whole-device atomic hotplug control while preserving backward
   compatibility.

 - "mm: convert more vm_flags_t users to vma_flags_t" (Lorenzo Stoakes)

   Continue transitioning the kernel from the deprecated vm_flags_t type
   to vma_flags_t across core memory management infrastructure.

   It replaces legacy type usage in core functions such as do_mmap(),
   unmapped area allocation, mm->def_vma_flags, and VMA operations like
   mlock, mprotect, and mremap.

 - "Two small patches to clean up mm/mm_slot.h" (xu xin)

   Refactor mm_slot.h by introducing mm_slot_remove() to unify duplicate
   slot deletion sequences in khugepaged and KSM. It also adds code
   documentation explaining why mm_slot_lookup and mm_slot_insert must
   remain as preprocessor macros rather than static inline functions.

 - "mm/damon/core: hide core-private struct fields" (SJ Park)

   Clean up DAMON core structures by consistently marking internal-only
   fields with private: comment tags to prevent improper direct access
   from outer layers.

   It enforces encapsulation across core structures including
   damon_region, damon_target, and damon_ctx and updates DAMON_SYSFS to
   interact through approved access APIs instead of exposing raw struct
   members.

 - "mm/damon: unurgent fixes for infinite loop, NULL de-ref and races"
   (SJ Park)

   Address potential infinite loops, NULL dereferences, and race
   conditions identified in DAMON

   It fixes an infinite loop triggered by extreme user configurations, a
   NULL pointer dereference within unit tests and minor monitoring
   accuracy degradation caused by subtle runtime races.

 - "mm/page_alloc: fixes for free_pages_nolock() on RT/UP" (Brendan
   Jackman)

   Fix an NMI safety flaw in __free_frozen_pages() where freeing pages
   on non-SMP or PREEMPT_RT kernels can bypass can_spin_trylock() checks
   via non-PCP or isolated migration paths.

   It also resolves potential kernel crashes and privilege escalation
   risks triggered when BPF tracing runs in NMI context alongside memory
   hotplug or large allocation frees.

 - "mm/page_alloc: couple of followups for recent cleanups" (Brendan
   Jackman)

   Clean up and update page allocator nomenclature, documentation, and
   debug assertions.

   It aligns internal FPI_ flags with the public "nolock" naming
   convention, removes outdated internal implementation details from
   high-level page allocator comments, and eliminates obsolete
   VM_BUG_ON() assertions in allocation paths.

 - "mm/mseal: further cleanups" (Lorenzo Stoakes)

   Refactor and simplify the mseal implementation by clarifying API
   boundaries and removing unnecessary code complexity.

   It replaces generic do_mseal() usage outside the syscall with a
   dedicated mseal_mmap_page_zero() helper for MMAP_PAGE_ZERO,
   eliminates mm_struct parameters to enforce that sealing applies only
   to current->mm, and streamlines overall logic and comments with no
   functional changes intended.

 - "mm/vmscan: fix swappiness=max and clean up per-node proactive
   reclaim" (Ridong Chen)

   Resolve reclaim behavior bugs and clean up function parameters across
   memory reclaim paths

   It fixes swappiness=max in both standard reclaim and MGLRU so
   unswappable anonymous memory no longer falls back to evicting page
   cache, ensures reclaim_store() returns accurate error codes instead
   of collapsing all failures into -EAGAIN, and removes the obsolete
   gfp_mask parameter from __node_reclaim().

 - "mm: mincore: misc cleanups" (Kefeng Wang)

   Clean up and simplifies the mincore code. Most importantly, it
   removes the historical special behavior that always reports VM_PFNMAP
   pages as non-resident.

 - "mm/huge_memory: drop dead split helper variants" (Kiryl Shutsemau)

   Two trivial cleanups in the folio split API

 - "mm/damon: fix uninitialized DAMOS field and kunit exec expectation
   bugs" (SJ Park)

   Resolve minor operational and testing bugs in DAMON identified by
   Sashiko. It initializes the damos->last_applied field to prevent
   occasional efficiency degradation and fixes invalid memory accesses
   in DAMON KUnit tests during test failure handling.

 - "cleanup for stable_page_flags()" (Jinjiang Tu)

   Clean up and refactor stable_page_flags() used by /proc/kpageflags
   without altering functionality.

   It uses BIT_ULL() to prevent shift-overflow warnings on 64-bit flag
   bits, converts folio-specific flag checks to standard folio_test_*()
   helpers, and removes redundant CONFIG_PAGE_IDLE_FLAG handling.

 - "Batch unmap of uffd-wp file folios" (Dev Jain)

   Extend batched folio unmapping support to file folios within
   userfaultfd write-protect (uffd-wp) VMAs by adding batching
   capabilities to pte_install_uffd_wp_if_needed().

   This removes special-case restrictions on uffd-wp VMAs in
   try_to_unmap_one(), significantly simplifying the function's control
   flow and complexity.

 - "mm/early_ioremap: clarify and clean up early_ioremap_reset()"
   (Sang-Heon Jeon)

   Clarify and clean up the architecture-specific usage of
   __late_set_fixmap() and __late_clear_fixmap() after
   early_ioremap_reset()

   It adds explicit documentation regarding when early_ioremap_reset()
   must be called and removes redundant macro definitions and reset
   calls in the RISC-V and ARM64 architectures.

 - "mm: fix reclaim storms in defrag_mode" (Johannes Weiner)

   Address severe performance regressions, swap storms, and spurious
   OOMs caused by vm.defrag_mode=1 under high memory pressure in Meta
   production

   It updates the page allocator slowpath so non-movable allocation
   requests actively trigger direct reclaim and direct compaction at
   pageblock_order scale, allowing them to claim whole pageblocks rather
   than spinning unproductively.

 - "zram: lockmap tweaks" (Sebastian Siewior)

   Optimize and fix lockdep tracking for zram devices by consolidating
   per-entry lockmaps and isolate lock classes across multiple instances

   This reduces memory overhead by replacing per-entry lockdep_map
   instances with a single map per struct zram, and assigns a dynamic
   lock_class_key to each instance to prevent false deadlock reports
   when different zram devices are backed by distinct filesystems.

fdd843f2be kho: exclude hugetlb memory from scratch size calculation
HugeTLB pages can be preserved memory. So they are never allocated from
scratch. Instead, they are allocated from the memory blocks with no
preserved memory. These areas are detected at runtime on each boot.

But since they are allocated via memblock, they show up as RSRV_KERN,
and blow up the scratch size when scratch scale is in use.

All hugetlb pages are marked RSRV_HUGETLB. Subtract their size from
RSRV_KERN when calculating scratch sizes.

Motivation
==========

The scratch space is allocated by the first kernel in the KHO chain, and
is reused by all subsequent kernels. The size of the space is either set
via the commandline by the system administrator or by calculating the
amount of memory used by the kernel and adding a multiplier. In either
case, the scratch space is a heuristic and is liable to fill up and fail
allocation if a kernel uses more memory than expected.

In addition, gigantic huge pages (usually 1 GiB) are allocated via
memblock, and in a KHO boot that memory comes from the scratch space. In
hypervisors it is common to dedicate a major part of the system's memory
to gigantic hugepages for VM memory.

If this memory needs to come from scratch space, then scratch needs to
be greater than the memory needed for huge pages, which is impractical.
In addition, hugepages can be preserved memory. Allocating them from
scratch violates the assumption that scratch contains no preserved
memory.

Methodology
===========

Discover areas that don't contain any preserved memory at boot by
walking the preserved memory radix tree. Mark them as scratch to allow
allocations from them. This makes KHO more resilient to memory pressure
and allows supporting huge page preservation.

Since the preserved memory radix tree mixes both physical address and
order into a single key, and does not track table pages, it is difficult
to identify free areas from it directly. Walk the tree and digest it
down into another radix tree. The latter tracks blocks of
KHO_SCRATCH_EXT_BLKSIZE (1 GiB as of now) granularity. Then walk the
digested tree and mark the areas between the present keys as scratch.

Performance
===========

The discovery algorithm traverses the preserved memory radix tree
exactly once. While it does use memory for the digested radix tree,
since the blocks are split by 1 GiB, a single bitmap with 4k pages can
track up to 32 TiB of memory. So there are likely to be very few radix
tree pages used in this tracking. For systems with all physical memory
below 32 TiB, this should result in a total of 6 pages being
used (KHO_TREE_MAX_DEPTH == 6).

An alternate way of achieving this would be to call kho_mem_retrieve()
earlier in boot and mark all the KHO preservations as reserved. But that
can blow up memblock.reserved with a bunch of 4K pages scattered
everywhere, which will reduce performance of subsequent allocations.
Since the free blocks are tracked in chunks of 1 GiB, this won't blow up
memblock.memory as much.

There is no inherent reason for using 1 GiB as the discovered block
size. This can be changed later if needed. Currently, KHO is mainly
targeted for server grade systems with hundreds of gigabytes to
terabytes of memory. So 1 GiB is a reasonable granularity for those
systems. For smaller systems this doesn't work as well, but we can
arrive at a better heuristic when we have concrete use cases.

Practical evaluation
====================

The testing is done on a x86_64 qemu VM running under KVM with 64G
memory and 12 CPUs. The machine pre-allocates 50 1G pages.

Since the performance scales with how busy the radix tree is, tests are
done with 2 preservation patterns: first with two 1M memfds, second with
two 1G memfds, both using 4k pages.

Test case 1 - 1M memfd
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This test case has two memfds with 1M memory each in 4k pages, plus
other preservations from LUO core and other KHO users.

This is how the radix tree stats look like:

kho_memory_init(), which happens relatively late in MM init. In a coming
patch, the tree will be used from kho_memory_init_early(). Move the tree

4513fea02a kho: initialize kho_scratch pointer earlier in boot
In a future patch, mm init will use kho_scratch_overlap() for deciding
the migrate type of pageblocks it initializes. The earliest user
currently is free_area_init(). kho_scratch_overlap()
relies on kho_scratch pointer being initialized. Introduce
kho_memory_init_early() to do this.

kho_populate() would normally be a good place to do this, but
unfortunately, phys_to_virt() does not work at that point on ARM64. So
we need yet another initialization function.

ec7c0b1a0d kho: expose kho_scratch_overlap() to kexec_handover.h
Support for discovering memory blocks with no preserved memory will be
added in coming patches. These areas will also be marked as scratch to
allow allocations from them. Memblock will switch to looking through the
scratch array to decide the right migratetype.

Expose kho_scratch_overlap() to KHO users. Since it is now used by
non-debug code, move it out of kexec_handover_debug.c and into
kexec_handover.c. Gate the overlap checks in kho_preserve_folio() and
kho_preserve_pages() by IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_KEXEC_HANDOVER_DEBUG) instead.

Since kexec_handover_debug.c is now empty, delete it.

Add a stub for kho_scratch_overlap() to memblock tests to make sure it
compiles. It will be used in memblock by a coming commit.

No functional changes.

3ab43ce410 kho: allow early-boot usage of the KHO radix tree
The KHO radix tree allocates memory for table pages from the buddy
allocator using get_zeroed_page(). This is not available in early boot
when memblock is still active.

Using the radix tree in early boot is useful for KHO to track metadata
about its memory. One such example is for tracking free blocks for
memory allocation when scratch runs out of space. This feature will be
added in the following commits.

Add kho_radix_{alloc,free}_node() which allocate and free the table
pages. They use slab_is_available() to decide which allocator to use.
While slab_is_available() indicates availability of the slab allocator,
it gets initialized right after buddy so it serves the same practical
purpose.

88b2bdbbf7 kho: add callback for table pages
The KHO memory preservation radix tree does not mark the table pages
themselves as preserved. This is done to avoid a circular dependency
where preserving a page can lead of allocating other preserved pages.
This means any walker looking for free ranges of memory outside of
scratch areas will ignore the table

Add a table callback that is invoked for each table page. The callback
is given the physical address of the table page.

This is useful for the upcoming mechanism that discovers blocks of
memory with no preserved pages and lets them be used for boot memory.

Another use case is for users of the radix tree other than KHO itself.
The radix tree does not preserve its own pages due to the circular
dependency described above. But external users of the radix tree would
need to preserve and restore their pages for the radix tree to survive
past early boot. They can use this callback to do so.

955409ba57 kho: disallow wide keys in radix tree
The KHO radix tree was designed to track preserved pages. So it does not
provide the capability to track any 64-bit key. Instead, it limits the
key width to how much it needs for tracking PFNs and their orders.
Limiting the width reduces the number of levels in the tree.

KHO is not expected to be the only user of the radix tree. With the API
generalized to allow other users, now it is possible to add any key to
the tree.

Check the key width at kho_radix_add_key(), and error out if it exceeds
what the tree can handle. Do this instead of increasing the tree depth
since right now there are no users that need to use wider keys, so this
avoids memory overhead and ABI breakage.

23c346727b kho: make radix max key width more obvious
The KHO radix tree constants are somewhat hard to understand. The tree
depth essentially comes from the max key width. The max key width comes
from the need to store a 52-bit PFN plus one more bit for the order.

All this is very obscure with the corrent code. The PFN width is defined
as KHO_ORDER_0_LOG2, which makes very little sense to a new reader not
already familiar with what the value means. Then the fact that an extra
bit is needed is hidden in the KHO_TREE_MAX_DEPTH calculation.

Simplify this by removing KHO_ORDER_0_LOG2 and replace it with
KHO_RADIX_KEY_WIDTH. Update the comment to explain why this value is
used. This moves the +1 from KHO_TREE_MAX_DEPTH to KHO_RADIX_KEY_WIDTH,
making things clearer.

Update kho_{encode,decode}_radix_key() to not use KHO_ORDER_0_LOG2.
Instead, refactor the code and comments to make it clearer how the
encoding and decoding is done.

In kho_encode_radix_key(), add a new variable for the shift for physical
address. Use that in calculating where the order bit goes and in
calculating the shifted PFN. Update comments to make this clearer.

In kho_radix_decode_key(), turn order_bit to 0-indexed to simplify the
eventual calculation for order. Touch up comments to make the
computation clearer.

770b080b00 kho: generalize radix tree APIs
The KHO radix tree is a data structure that can track the presence or
absence of an arbitrary key, with nothing inherently tied to KHO memory
preservation tracking. This was one of the design goals of the radix
tree. This was done to enable it to be re-used by other users of KHO.

Despite that, the radix tree APIs are very closely tied to KHO memory
preservation tracking. Adding a key is done by kho_radix_add_page(),
which encodes it as a page tracking operation and takes in PFN and
order. kho_radix_del_page() does the same. These functions encode the
key internally that goes into the radix tree. kho_radix_walk_tree() does
the same by baking the PFN and order into the callback arguments.

Generalize the APIs by taking the key directly and doing the encoding at
the callers. Rename the functions to kho_radix_add_key() and
kho_radix_del_key(). In practice, this removes a line each from the
functions and moves the encoding function call to the callers.
Similarly, update kho_radix_tree_walk_callback_t to take the key
directly.

Now that key encoding is no longer an inherent part of the radix tree
and can be decided by the user, rename kho_radix_{encode,decode}_key()
to kho_{encode,decode}_radix_key(). This moves them out of the
"kho_radix_" name space into the "kho_" namespace. This emphasizes that
this is KHO's way of encoding the key for its radix tree.

3a0b8fa2eb kho: fix size calculation in kho_preserved_memory_reserve()
kho_preserved_memory_reserve() calculates the size of a preservation by
doing 1 << (order + PAGE_SHIFT). Since the '1' is a 32-bit integer, it
can only be shifted by 31. That is, it will only work for preservations
up to 2 GiB. Larger preservations will trigger undefined behaviour.

While preservations larger than 2 GiB can't be obtained via folios
currently, they can be obtained via kho_preserve_pages().

For example, memblock reserve_mem uses kho_preserve_pages().
Reservations larger than 2 GiB are valid and will trigger this bug if
properly aligned.

Fix it by using 1UL for shifting.

5c4a03afcb liveupdate: Remember FLB retrieve() status
LUO keeps track of successful retrieve attempts on an FLB. It does so
to avoid multiple retrievals of the same FLB. Multiple retrievals cause
problems because once the FLB is retrieved, the serialized data
structures are likely freed and the FLB is likely in a very different
state from what the code expects.

All this works well when retrieve succeeds. When it fails,
luo_flb_retrieve_one() returns the error immediately, without ever
storing anywhere that a retrieve was attempted or what its error code
was. If the user attempts to retrieve another file registered with the
same FLB, LUO will attempt to call the FLB's retrieve() callback again.

The retry is problematic for much of the same reasons listed above. The
FLB is likely in a very different state than what the retrieve logic
normally expects (e.g. some KHO pages may have already been restored and
freed).

There is no sane way of attempting the retrieve again. Remember the
error retrieve returned and directly return it on a retry.

This is done by changing the retrieved bool to a retrieve_status
integer. A value of 0 means retrieve was never attempted, a positive
value means it succeeded, and a negative value means it failed and the
error code is the value.

This is similar to commit f85b1c6af5 ("liveupdate: luo_file: remember
retrieve() status") which did the same for LUO files.

36882f3392 liveupdate: Reference count outgoing FLB data
Increment the outgoing FLB refcount in liveupdate_flb_get_outgoing() so
that the FLB structure cannot be freed while the caller is actively
using it. Add an additional liveupdate_flb_put_outgoing() function so
the caller can explicitly indicate when it is done using the outgoing
FLB.

During a Live Update, the kernel may need to fetch the outgoing FLB
outside of the scope of a file handler's preserve() and unpreserve()
callbacks. In that situation there is no way for the caller to protect
itself against the outgoing FLB from being freed while it is using it.
Incrementing the reference count in liveupdate_flb_get_outgoing()
ensures it cannot be freed.

This change also aligns the outgoing FLB lifecycle management with the
incoming FLB, since the latter uses the same get/put semantics.

05cf3d87a0 liveupdate: reject nonzero reserved value for SESSION_FINISH
The UAPI documents liveupdate_session_finish::reserved as requiring zero,
but luo_session_finish() currently ignores it and finishes the session.
Accepting nonzero values prevents the field from being safely repurposed
by a future extension.

Reject nonzero reserved values before changing session state, matching
LIVEUPDATE_SESSION_GET_NAME.

deferred_init_memmap_chunk() interleaves initialization of struct pages
with freeing them. This works fine without KHO because free regions
will never be buddy neighbors. However, with KHO, free memory will be split
into (free && scratch) and (free && !scratch), that can be buddy neighbors.

KHO scratch is aligned to CMA_MIN_ALIGNMENT_PAGES pages but buddy looks
at the neighborhood of MAX_ORDER_NR_PAGES pages. These values are
configurable but CMA_MIN_ALIGNMENT_PAGES is always less or equal to
MAX_ORDER_NR_PAGES. In the crashing configuration they were set as
follows:

	CMA_MIN_ALIGNMENT_PAGES = 1 << 9
	MAX_ORDER_NR_PAGES = 1 << 10

So while freeing one chunk, buddy accessed uninitialized struct pages
from another chunk, tried to merge the blocks and crashed.

To fix this, let's just align KHO scratch to MAX_ORDER_NR_PAGES pages.

4416f8a9ed liveupdate: fix GET_NAME ioctl argument validation
LIVEUPDATE_SESSION_GET_NAME was developed in the liveupdate/next branch
while the session type validation change was carried in liveupdate-fixes.
When the conflict between the two branches was resolved, the GET_NAME
operation descriptor picked up the structure and last member from
RETRIEVE_FD.

This makes both its known size and minimum size 16 bytes rather than 72.
A zero-initialized request still succeeds because luo_session_get_name()
writes the full name before luo_ucmd_respond() copies the full GET_NAME
response to userspace. However, copy_struct_from_user() treats the
output-only name field as unknown trailing data and rejects the request
with -E2BIG if any byte in that field is nonzero.

Use the GET_NAME structure and its name field in the descriptor.

2a441a14c2 liveupdate: Remove limit on the number of sessions
Currently, the number of LUO sessions is limited by a fixed number of
pre-allocated pages for serialization (16 pages, allowing for ~819
sessions).

This limitation is problematic if LUO is used to support things such as
systemd file descriptor store, and would be used not just as VM memory
but to save other states on the machine.

Remove this limit by transitioning to a linked-block approach for
session metadata serialization. Instead of a single contiguous block,
session metadata is now stored in a chain of 16-page blocks. Each block
starts with a header containing the physical address of the next block
and the number of session entries in the current block.

Introduce a linked-block serialization mechanism for state handover.

Previously, LUO used contiguous memory blocks for serializing sessions
and files, which imposed limits on the total number of items that could
be preserved across a live update.

This commit adds the infrastructure for a more flexible, block-based
approach where serialized data is stored in a chain of linked blocks.
This is a generic KHO serialization block infrastructure that can be
used by multiple subsystems.

d376e4b55c liveupdate: centralize state management into struct luo_ser
Transition the LUO to ABI v2, which centralizes state management into a
single struct luo_ser header.

Previously, LUO state was spread across multiple FDT properties and
subnodes. ABI v2 simplifies this by placing all core state, including
the liveupdate number and physical addresses for sessions and FLB
headers into a centralized struct luo_ser.

Note that this change introduces a semantic difference: the sessions
and FLB serialization formats are no longer completely independent of
the core LUO. Their metadata (such as physical addresses for sessions
and FLB headers) is now coupled to and managed via the centralized
struct luo_ser.

291dcd37c8 liveupdate: fix u-a-f in luo_file_unpreserve_files() and luo_file_finish()
In luo_file_unpreserve_files() and luo_file_finish(), reorder
module_put() and xa_erase() to ensure the file handler module remains
pinned while its operations are being accessed.

Specifically, luo_get_id() dereferences fh->ops->get_id, so the module
reference must be held until after xa_erase() (which calls luo_get_id)
completes.

For luo_file_finish(), this requires moving the module_put() call out of
the luo_file_finish_one() helper and into the main loop of
luo_file_finish() itself.

bb1328be35 liveupdate: block session mutations during reboot
During the reboot() syscall, user processes may still be running
concurrently and attempting to mutate sessions (e.g., creating,
retrieving, or releasing sessions). To prevent this, introduce
luo_session_serialize_rwsem to synchronize mutations with the
serialization process.

All session mutation operations (create, retrieve, release, ioctl) take
the read lock. The serialization process (luo_session_serialize) takes
the write lock and holds it indefinitely on success. This effectively
freezes the LUO session subsystem during the transition to the new
kernel. If serialization fails, the lock is released to allow recovery.

0e39380a73 kho: make sure scratch size is always aligned by CMA_MIN_ALIGNMENT_BYTES
When using scratch_scale, the scratch sizes are rounded up to
CMA_MIN_ALIGNMENT_BYTES since they will be released as MIGRATE_CMA. This
is not done when using fixed scratch sizes via command line. This can
result in user specifying a size which is not aligned, and thus kernel
releasing a pageblock that is only partially scratch.

Do the rounding up for both cases in scratch_size_update().

While the liveupdate= parameter is documented in kernel-parameters.txt,
it is not listed in LUO's user facing documentation. This can make it
hard for users to figure out how to enable the subsystem, since enabling
just the config isn't enough.

Note the need for the kernel parameter in LUO core documentation, which
gets exported to Documentation/core-api/liveupdate.rst.

507e3b479f liveupdate: validate session type before performing operation
The sessions ioctls are not applicable to all session types. PRESERVE_FD
is only applicable to outgoing sessions. RETRIEVE_FD and FINISH are only
valid for incoming session. Calling a incoming ioctl on an outgoing
session is invalid and can cause file handlers to run into unexpected
errors.

For example, a user can create a (outgoing) session, preserve a memfd,
and then immediately do a retrieve without doing a kexec in between.
This would result in memfd's retrieve handler to run. The handlers
expects to be called from a post-kexec context, and will try to do a
kho_restore_vmalloc() or kho_restore_folio() to try and restore memory.

KHO catches this (thanks to KHO_PAGE_MAGIC) and returns an error, but
since this is considered an internal error and KHO throws out a bunch of
WARN()s.

Associate a type with each ioctl op and validate the type in
luo_session_ioctl() before dispatching the ioctl handler to make sure
the op is being called for the right session type.

Increment the incoming FLB refcount in liveupdate_flb_get_incoming() so
that the FLB structure cannot be freed while the caller is actively using
it. Add an additional liveupdate_flb_put_incoming() function so the
caller can explicitly indicate when it is done using the FLB data.

During a Live Update, a subsystem might need to hold onto the incoming
File-Lifecycle-Bound (FLB) data for an extended period, such as during
device enumeration. Incrementing the reference count guarantees that the
data remains valid and accessible until the subsystem releases it,
preventing future use-after-free bugs.

Userspace when requesting a session via the ioctl specifies a name and
gets a FD, but then there is no ioctl to go back the other way and get
the name given a LUO session FD. This is problematic especially when
there is a userspace orchestrator that wants to check what FDs it is
handling for clients without having to do manual string scraping of
procfs, or without procfs at all.

Add a ioctl to simply get the name from an FD.

initialization is deferred to parallel kthreads that run later
in the boot process.

During KHO restoration, kho_preserved_memory_reserve() writes metadata
for each preserved memory region. However, if the struct page has not
been initialized, this write targets uninitialized memory, potentially
leading to errors like:
BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: ...

Fix this by introducing kho_get_preserved_page(),  which ensures
all struct pages in a preserved region are initialized by calling
init_deferred_page() which is a no-op when the struct page is already
initialized.
