bpf: Add support for sleepable tracepoint programs
This series adds support for sleepable BPF programs attached to raw
tracepoints (tp_btf, raw_tp) and classic tracepoints (tp).
The motivation is to allow BPF programs on syscall
tracepoints to use sleepable helpers such as bpf_copy_from_user(),
enabling reliable user memory reads that can page-fault.
This series removes restriction for faultable tracepoints:
Patch 1 modifies __bpf_trace_run() to support sleepable programs.
Patch 2 introduces bpf_prog_run_array_sleepable() to support new usecase.
Patch 3 adds sleepable support for classic tracepoints
(BPF_PROG_TYPE_TRACEPOINT) by introducing trace_call_bpf_faultable()
and restructuring perf_syscall_enter/exit() to run BPF programs in
faultable context.
Patch 4 allows BPF_TRACE_RAW_TP, BPF_PROG_TYPE_RAW_TRACEPOINT, and
BPF_PROG_TYPE_TRACEPOINT programs to be loaded as sleepable, with
load-time and attach-time checks to reject sleepable programs on
non-faultable tracepoints.
Patch 5 adds libbpf SEC_DEF handlers: tp_btf.s, raw_tp.s,
raw_tracepoint.s, tp.s, and tracepoint.s.
Patch 6 adds selftests covering tp_btf.s, raw_tp.s, and tp.s positive
cases using bpf_copy_from_user() plus negative tests for non-faultable
tracepoints.

Allow BPF_PROG_TYPE_RAW_TRACEPOINT, BPF_PROG_TYPE_TRACEPOINT, and
BPF_TRACE_RAW_TP (tp_btf) programs to be sleepable by adding them
to can_be_sleepable().
For BTF-based raw tracepoints (tp_btf), add a load-time check in
bpf_check_attach_target() that rejects sleepable programs attaching
to non-faultable tracepoints with a descriptive error message.
For raw tracepoints (raw_tp), add an attach-time check in
bpf_raw_tp_link_attach() that rejects sleepable programs on
non-faultable tracepoints. The attach-time check is needed because
the tracepoint name is not known at load time for raw_tp.
The attach-time check for classic tracepoints (tp) in
__perf_event_set_bpf_prog() was added in the previous patch.
Replace the verbose error message that enumerates allowed program
types with a generic "Program of this type cannot be sleepable"
message, since the list of sleepable-capable types keeps growing.

Add trace_call_bpf_faultable(), a variant of trace_call_bpf() for
faultable tracepoints that supports sleepable BPF programs. It uses
rcu_tasks_trace for lifetime protection and
bpf_prog_run_array_sleepable() for per-program RCU flavor selection,
following the uprobe_prog_run() pattern.
Restructure perf_syscall_enter() and perf_syscall_exit() to run BPF
programs before perf event processing. Previously, BPF ran after the
per-cpu perf trace buffer was allocated under preempt_disable,
requiring cleanup via perf_swevent_put_recursion_context() on filter.
Now BPF runs in faultable context before preempt_disable, reading
syscall arguments from local variables instead of the per-cpu trace
record, removing the dependency on buffer allocation. This allows
sleepable BPF programs to execute and avoids unnecessary buffer
allocation when BPF filters the event. The perf event submission
path (buffer allocation, fill, submit) remains under preempt_disable
as before. Since BPF no longer runs within the buffer allocation
context, the fake_regs output parameter to perf_trace_buf_alloc()
is no longer needed and is replaced with NULL.
Add an attach-time check in __perf_event_set_bpf_prog() to reject
sleepable BPF_PROG_TYPE_TRACEPOINT programs on non-syscall
tracepoints, since only syscall tracepoints run in faultable context.
This prepares the classic tracepoint runtime and attach paths for
sleepable programs. The verifier changes to allow loading sleepable
BPF_PROG_TYPE_TRACEPOINT programs are in a subsequent patch.

Add bpf_prog_run_array_sleepable() for running BPF program arrays
on faultable tracepoints. Unlike bpf_prog_run_array_uprobe(), it
includes per-program recursion checking for private stack safety
and hardcodes is_uprobe to false.
Skip dummy_bpf_prog at the top of the loop. When
bpf_prog_array_delete_safe() replaces a detached program with
dummy_bpf_prog on allocation failure, the dummy is statically
allocated and has NULL active, stats, and aux fields. Identify
it by prog->len == 0, since every real program has at least one
instruction.

Rework __bpf_trace_run() to support sleepable BPF programs by using
explicit RCU flavor selection, following the uprobe_prog_run() pattern.
For sleepable programs, use rcu_read_lock_tasks_trace() for lifetime
protection with migrate_disable(). For non-sleepable programs, use the
regular rcu_read_lock_dont_migrate().
Remove the preempt_disable_notrace/preempt_enable_notrace pair from
the faultable tracepoint BPF probe wrapper in bpf_probe.h, since
migration protection and RCU locking are now handled per-program
inside __bpf_trace_run().
Adapt bpf_prog_test_run_raw_tp() for sleepable programs: reject
BPF_F_TEST_RUN_ON_CPU since sleepable programs cannot run in hardirq
or preempt-disabled context, and call __bpf_prog_test_run_raw_tp()
directly instead of via smp_call_function_single(). Rework
__bpf_prog_test_run_raw_tp() to select RCU flavor per-program and
add per-program recursion context guard for private stack safety.

Extend lib/test_bpf.c to provide comprehensive test coverage for BPF
signed division (SDIV) and signed modulo (SMOD) instructions, both
32-bit and 64-bit variants with immediate operands.
Introduce F_ALU32 and F_SIGNED flags to replace the less readable
bool alu32 and s16 off parameters throughout the test helpers. The
BPF instruction 'off' field is derived from flags only at the point
of instruction encoding.
Changes:
- Add enum { F_ALU32 = 1, F_SIGNED = 2 } for readable test flags.
- __bpf_alu_result(): take u32 flags instead of separate signed/alu32
parameters. Narrows operands internally for ALU32 (unsigned via u32
cast, signed via s32 cast) before computing the reference result.
- __bpf_emit_alu64_imm(), __bpf_emit_alu32_imm(): pass flags through
to __bpf_alu_result, derive 'off' for instruction encoding locally.
- __bpf_fill_alu_imm_regs(): take u32 flags, use F_ALU32/F_SIGNED for
operand setup and single-line __bpf_alu_result() call.
- __bpf_fill_alu_shift(), __bpf_fill_alu_shift_same_reg(): convert
bool alu32 parameter to u32 flags for consistency.
- New test fill functions: bpf_fill_alu{32,64}_{sdiv,smod}_imm() and
bpf_fill_alu{32,64}_{sdiv,smod}_imm_regs(), each testing all
immediate value magnitudes and all register pair combinations.
- All existing unsigned tests updated to use flags (0 or F_ALU32),
preserving backward compatibility.
8 new test cases added:
ALU64_SDIV_K, ALU64_SMOD_K (immediate magnitudes + register combos)
ALU32_SDIV_K, ALU32_SMOD_K (immediate magnitudes + register combos)

bpf: Extend BTF UAPI vlen, kinds to use unused bits
Currently BTF types can have a maximum of 65535 vlen-specified
objects. While this limit has not yet been surpassed for existing
cases (struct/union fields, enum values, function arguments and
datasec), upcoming BTF location information - specifically inline
sites - will hit that limit. Utilize unused BTF info bits in
struct btf_type to increase limit to 24-bits (over 16 million).
This is more than an order of magnitude greater than inline
site counts for the kernel (~400,000) so should be enough for
the near future at least.
Similarly, struct btf_type uses 5 bits for BTF kind values;
currently we use 20 kinds, but BTF location information will
take another 3, and conceivably providing better support for Rust
types in BTF (now that modules can be built using Rust) could
push us close to the max of 31. Use 2 unused bits to provide
a max possible kind of 127.
Patch 1 handles UAPI and kernel-related changes.
Patch 2 updates libbpf to have btf_vlen() return a __u32 instead
of __u16 and updates consumers in libbpf accordingly. Also adds
bounds checking for max vlen.
Patch 3 cleans up __u16 vlen usage in bpftool.
Patch 4 fixes up a test that relies on BTF info overflowing
maximum kind value; fix up the expected error to be an
invalid kind rather than (now impossible) invalid btf_info.
Patch 5 fixes up __u16 vlen usage in selftests/bpf.
Patch 6 syncs BTF documentation with UAPI changes.
Changes since v2 [1]:
- dropped backwards-compatibility macros (Alexei, patch 1)
- added additional vlen bounds check in btf__add_field()
(sashiko, bpf bot, patch 2)
- dropped sanitization check in libbpf as older kernels will
reject BTF with extended vlen/kinds using BTF info mask
(Alexei)
- fix more vlen assumptions in prog_test/ctx_rewrite.c
(sashiko, patch 5)
Changes since v1 [2]:
- added redundant macros to UAPI in case enum switch for BTF_MAX*
values causes problems (sashiko, patch 1)
- updated feature test to use BTF loading rather than vmlinux BTF
lookup, in line with other BTF feature tests (sashiko, patch 3)
- fixed up a few more kernel, libbpf, bpftool instances of __u16 usage
(bpf bot, sashiko, patches 1, 2, 4)
- fixed up sanitize selftest cleanup (Mykyta, patch 5)
- used unlikely-to-be-used kind (sashiko, patch 6)
- fixed a few lingering selftests uses of __u16 for kind (patch 7)
- update btf.rst with new vlen, kind sizes (patch 8)

BTF maximum vlen is encoded using 16 bits with a maximum vlen
of 65535. This has sufficed for structs, function parameters
and enumerated type values. However, with upcoming BTF location
information - in particular information about inline sites -
this limit is surpassed. Use bits 16-23 - currently unused in
BTF info - to extend to 24 bits, giving a max vlen of (2^24 - 1),
or 16 million.
Also extend BTF kind encoding from 5 to 7 bits, giving a maximum
available number of kinds of 128. Since with the BTF location work
we use another 3 kinds, we are fast approaching the current limit
of 32.
Convert BTF_MAX_* values to enums to allow them to be encoded in
kernel BTF; this will allow us to detect if the running kernel
supports a 24-bit vlen or not. Add one for max _possible_
(not used) kind.
Fix up a few places in the kernel where a 16-bit vlen is assumed;
remove BTF_INFO_MASK as now all bits are used.
The vlen expansion was suggested by Andrii in [1]; the kind expansion
is tackled here too as it may be needed also to support new kinds
in BTF.

The test_populate test uses >= instead of > when checking if the
runtime nr_cpus exceeds the bit capacity of a cpumask_t.
On a system where the physical CPU core count perfectly matches the
CONFIG_NR_CPUS upper bound (e.g. nr_cpus = 512 and CONFIG_NR_CPUS =
512), the condition nr_cpus >= CPUMASK_TEST_MASKLEN * 8 evaluates to
true (512 >= 512). This incorrectly causes the test to fail with an
error value of 3.
A 512-bit cpumask_t provides enough bits (indices 0 through 511) to
represent 512 CPUs. The subsequent bpf_for(i, 0, nr_cpus) loop
iterates up to nr_cpus - 1 (511), which perfectly aligns with the
maximum valid index of the bitmask.
Change the condition to nr_cpus > CPUMASK_TEST_MASKLEN * 8 to fix the
false positive failure on these systems.

Redefine dynptr mutability and fix inconsistency in the verifier and
kfunc signatures. Dynptr mutability is at two levels. The first is
the bpf_dynptr structure and the second is the memory the dynptr points
to. The verifer currently tracks the mutability of the bpf_dynptr struct
through helper and kfunc prototypes, where "const struct bpf_dynptr *"
means the structure itself is immutable. The second level is tracked
in upper bit of bpf_dynptr->size in runtime and is not changed in this
patch.
There are two type of inconsistency in the verfier regarding the
mutability of the bpf_dynptr struct. First, there are many existing
kfuncs whose prototypes are wrong. For example, bpf_dynptr_adjust()
mutates a dynptr's start and offset but marks the argument as a const
pointer. At the same time many other kfuncs that does not mutate the
dynptr but mark themselves as mutable. Second, the verifier currently
does not honor the const qualifier in kfunc prototypes as it determines
whether tagging the arg_type with MEM_RDONLY or not based on the register
state.
Since all the verifier care is to prevent CONST_PTR_TO_DYNPTR from
being destroyed in callback and global subprogram, redefine the
mutability at the bpf_dynptr level to just bpf_dynptr_kern->data. Then,
explicitly prohibit passing CONST_PTR_TO_DYNPTR to an argument tagged
with MEM_UNINIT or OBJ_RELEASE. The mutability of a dynptr's view is not
really interesting so drop MEM_RDONLY annotation for dynptr from the
helpers and kfuncs. Plus, if the mutability of the entire bpf_dynptr
were to be done correctly, it would kill the bpf_dynptr_adjust() usage
in callback and global subporgram.
Implementation wise
- First, make sure all kfunc arg are correctly tagged: Tag the dynptr
argument of bpf_dynptr_file_discard() with OBJ_RELEASE.
- Then, in process_dynptr_func(), make sure CONST_PTR_TO_DYNPTR cannot
be passed to argument tagged with MEM_UNINIT or OBJ_RELEASE. For
MEM_UNINIT, it is already checked by is_dynptr_reg_valid_uninit().
For OBJ_RELEASE, check against OBJ_RELEASE instead of MEM_RDONLY and
drop a now identical check in unmark_stack_slots_dynptr().
- Remove the mutual exclusive check between MEM_UNINIT and MEM_RDONLY,
but don't add a MEM_UNINIT and OBJ_RELEASE version as it is obviously
wrong.
Note that while this patch stops following the C semantic for the
mutability of bpf_dynptr, the prototype of kfuncs are still fixed to
maintain the correct C semantics in the implementation. Adding or
removing the const qualifier does not break backward compatibility.
In addition, fix kfuncs dropping the const qualifier when casting the
opaque bpf_dynptr to bpf_dynptr_kern.

task_local_storage/sys_enter_exit and cgrp_local_storage/
cgroup_iter_sleepable occasionally fail in CI possibly because
bpf_{task,cgrp}_storage_get() returns NULL. Add a fexit probe on
bpf_local_storage_update() to capture the actual error code when this
happens. It will allow us to tell if it is trylock failure in
kmalloc_nolock(), timeout/deadlock in rqspinlock or something else.

In attach_kprobe(), the parsing logic uses sscanf() to extract the
target function name and offset from the section definition. Currently,
if a user specifies a negative offset (e.g., SEC("kprobe/func+-100")),
the input is not explicitly caught and reported as an error.
This commit updates the logic to explicitly notify the user when a
negative integer is provided. To facilitate this check, the offset
variable is changed from unsigned long to long so that sscanf()
can accurately capture a negative input for evaluation.
If a negative offset is detected, the loader will now print an
informative warning stating that the offset must be non-negative,
and return -EINVAL.
Additionally, free(func) is called in this new error path to prevent
a memory leak, as the function name string is dynamically allocated
by sscanf().

Pull ntfs resurrection from Namjae Jeon:
"Ever since Kari Argillander’s 2022 report [1] regarding the state of
the ntfs3 driver, I have spent the last 4 years working to provide
full write support and current trends (iomap, no buffer head, folio),
enhanced performance, stable maintenance, utility support including
fsck for NTFS in Linux.
This new implementation is built upon the clean foundation of the
original read-only NTFS driver, adding:
- Write support:
Implemented full write support based on the classic read-only NTFS
driver. Added delayed allocation to improve write performance
through multi-cluster allocation and reduced fragmentation of the
cluster bitmap.
- iomap conversion:
Switched buffered IO (reads/writes), direct IO, file extent
mapping, readpages, and writepages to use iomap.
- Remove buffer_head:
Completely removed buffer_head usage by converting to folios. As a
result, the dependency on CONFIG_BUFFER_HEAD has been removed from
Kconfig.
- Stability improvements:
The new ntfs driver passes 326 xfstests, compared to 273 for ntfs3.
All tests passed by ntfs3 are a complete subset of the tests passed
by this implementation. Added support for fallocate, idmapped
mounts, permissions, and more.

The main changes happened in the SunXi driver in order to
support new versions of the Allwinner NAND controller.
There are also some DT-binding improvements and cleanups.
Finally a couple of actual fixes (Realtek ECC and Winbond SPI NAND),
aside with the usual load of misc changes.
SPI NOR changes for 7.1
There is only a collection of bugfixes this time around, with no notable
changes to the core. Some of the more noteworthy bugfixes listed below.
- Enable die erase on MT35XU02GCBA. We knew this flash needed this fixup
since 7f77c561e2 ("mtd: spi-nor: micron-st: add TODO for fixing
mt35xu02gcba") but did not add it due to lack of hardware to test on.
- Fix locking on some Winbond w25q series flashes.
- Fix Auto Address Increment (AAI) writes on SST that flashes that start
on odd address. The write enable latch needs to be set again after the
single byte program.
The ARM32 BPF JIT does not support BPF-to-BPF function calls
(BPF_PSEUDO_CALL) or callbacks (BPF_PSEUDO_FUNC), but it does
not reject them either.
When a program with subprograms is loaded (e.g. libxdp's XDP
dispatcher uses __noinline__ subprograms, or any program using
callbacks like bpf_loop or bpf_for_each_map_elem), the verifier
invokes bpf_jit_subprogs() which calls bpf_int_jit_compile()
for each subprogram.
For BPF_PSEUDO_CALL, since ARM32 does not reject it, the JIT
silently emits code using the wrong address computation:
func = __bpf_call_base + imm
where imm is a pc-relative subprogram offset, producing a bogus
function pointer.
For BPF_PSEUDO_FUNC, the ldimm64 handler ignores src_reg and
loads the immediate as a normal 64-bit value without error.
In both cases, build_body() reports success and a JIT image is
allocated. ARM32 lacks the jit_data/extra_pass mechanism needed
for the second JIT pass in bpf_jit_subprogs(). On the second
pass, bpf_int_jit_compile() performs a full fresh compilation,
allocating a new JIT binary and overwriting prog->bpf_func. The
first allocation is never freed. bpf_jit_subprogs() then detects
the function pointer changed and aborts with -ENOTSUPP, but the
original JIT binary has already been leaked. Each program
load/unload cycle leaks one JIT binary allocation, as reported
by kmemleak:
unreferenced object 0xbf0a1000 (size 4096):
backtrace:
bpf_jit_binary_alloc+0x64/0xfc
bpf_int_jit_compile+0x14c/0x348
bpf_jit_subprogs+0x4fc/0xa60
Fix this by rejecting both BPF_PSEUDO_CALL in the BPF_CALL
handler and BPF_PSEUDO_FUNC in the BPF_LD_IMM64 handler, falling
through to the existing 'notyet' path. This causes build_body()
to fail before any JIT binary is allocated, so
bpf_int_jit_compile() returns the original program unjitted.
bpf_jit_subprogs() then sees !prog->jited and cleanly falls
back to the interpreter with no leak.

Currently, when bpf_struct_ops_map_update_elem() fails, the programs'
st_ops_assoc will remain set. They may become dangling pointers if the
map is freed later, but they will never be dereferenced since the
struct_ops attachment did not succeed. However, if one of the programs
is subsequently attached as part of another struct_ops map, its
st_ops_assoc will be poisoned even though its old st_ops_assoc was stale
from a failed attachment.
Fix the spurious poisoned st_ops_assoc by dissociating struct_ops
programs with a map if the attachment fails. Move
bpf_prog_assoc_struct_ops() to after *plink++ to make sure
bpf_prog_disassoc_struct_ops() will not miss a program when iterating
st_map->links.
Note that, dissociating a program from a map requires some attention as
it must not reset a poisoned st_ops_assoc or a st_ops_assoc pointing to
another map. The former is already guarded in
bpf_prog_disassoc_struct_ops(). The latter also will not happen since
st_ops_assoc of programs in st_map->links are set by
bpf_prog_assoc_struct_ops(), which can only be poisoned or pointing to
the current map.
