Some filesystems need to treat some folios specially (for example for
inodes with inline data). Doing the handling in their .writepages method
in a race-free manner results in duplicating some of the writeback
internals. So provide generalized version of mpage_writepages() that
allows filesystem to provide a handler called for each folio which can
handle the folio in a special way.

For exFAT filesystems with 4MB read_ahead_size, removing the storage
device during read operations can delay EIO error reporting by several
minutes. This occurs because the read-ahead implementation in mpage
doesn't handle errors.
Another reason for the delay is that the filesystem requires metadata to
issue file read request. When the storage device is removed, the metadata
buffers are invalidated, causing mpage to repeatedly attempt to fetch
metadata during each get_block call.
The original purpose of this patch is terminate read ahead when we fail to
get metadata, to make the patch more generic, implement it by checking
folio status, instead of checking the return of get_block().
So, if a folio is synchronously unlocked and non-uptodate, should we quit
the read ahead?
I think it depends on whether the error is permanent or temporary, and
whether further read ahead might succeed. A device being unplugged is one
reason for returning such a folio, but we could return it for many other
reasons (e.g., metadata errors). I think most errors won't be restored in
a short time, so we should quit read ahead when they occur.

Convert mpage to folios and adjust accounting for the number of blocks
within a folio instead of a single page. This also adjusts the number
of pages we should process to be the size of the folio to ensure we
always read a full folio.
Note that the page cache code already ensures do_mpage_readpage() will
work with folios respecting the address space min order, this ensures
that so long as folio_size() is used for our requirements mpage will
also now be able to process block sizes larger than the page size.

Most of the callers of wbc_account_cgroup_owner() are converting a folio
to page before calling the function. wbc_account_cgroup_owner() is
converting the page back to a folio to call mem_cgroup_css_from_folio().
Convert wbc_account_cgroup_owner() to take a folio instead of a page,
and convert all callers to pass a folio directly except f2fs.
Convert the page to folio for all the callers from f2fs as they were the
only callers calling wbc_account_cgroup_owner() with a page. As f2fs is
already in the process of converting to folios, these call sites might
also soon be calling wbc_account_cgroup_owner() with a folio directly in
the future.
No functional changes. Only compile tested.

Restore support for passing data lifetime information from filesystems to
block drivers. This patch reverts commit b179c98f76 ("block: Remove
request.write_hint") and commit c75e707fe1 ("block: remove the
per-bio/request write hint").
This patch does not modify the size of struct bio because the new
bi_write_hint member fills a hole in struct bio. pahole reports the
following for struct bio on an x86_64 system with this patch applied:

pointers we see with a 4kB PAGE_SIZE, we can see 128 pointers with 64kB or
so many on Hexagon that it trips compiler warnings about exceeding stack
frame size.
All we're doing with this array is checking for block contiguity, which we
can as well do by remembering the address of the first block in the page
and checking this block is at the appropriate offset from that address.

Patch series "Clean up the writeback paths".
Most of these patches verge on the trivial, converting filesystems that
just use block_write_full_page() to use mpage_writepages(). But as we saw
with Christoph's earlier patchset, there can be some "interesting"
gotchas, and I clearly haven't tested the majority of filesystems I've
touched here.
Patches 3 & 4 get rid of a lot of stack usage on architectures with larger
page sizes; 1024 bytes on 64-bit systems with 64KiB pages. It starts to
open the door to larger folio sizes on all architectures, but it's
certainly not enough yet.
Patch 14 is kind of trivial, but it's nice to get that simplification in.

thread-safe for pmd unshare") which addresses a rare race condition
related to PMD unsharing.
- Several folioification patch serieses from Matthew Wilcox, Vishal

- Johannes Weiner has a series ("mm: push down lock_page_memcg()")
which does perform some memcg maintenance and cleanup work.

Patch series "remove ->rw_page".
This series removes the ->rw_page block_device_operation, which is an old
and clumsy attempt at a simple read/write fast path for the block layer.
It isn't actually used by the fastest block layer operations that we
support (polled I/O through io_uring), but only used by the mpage buffered
I/O helpers which are some of the slowest I/O we have and do not make any
difference there at all, and zram which is a block device abused to
duplicate the zram functionality.
Given that zram is heavily used we need to make sure there is a good
replacement for synchronous I/O, so this series adds a new flag for
drivers that complete I/O synchronously and uses that flag to use on-stack
bios and synchronous submission for them in the swap code.

These are micro-optimizations for synchronous I/O, which do not matter
compared to all the other inefficiencies in the legacy buffer_head based
mpage code.

When filesystem's ->get_block function does not map the buffer head when
called from __mpage_writepage(), the function will happily go and pass
bogus bdev and block number to bio allocation routines which leads to
crashes sooner or later. E.g. UDF can do this because it doesn't want to
allocate blocks from ->writepages callbacks. It allocates blocks on
write or page fault but writeback can still spot dirty buffers without
underlying blocks allocated e.g. if blocksize < pagesize, the tail page
is dirtied (which means all its buffers are dirtied), and truncate
extends the file so that some buffer starts to be within i_size.

No one calls mpage_writepages with a NULL get_block paramter, so remove
support for that case.

All callers of mpage_writepage use block_write_full_page as their
->writepage implementation when called from mpage_writepages
(although for ntfs3 this is obsfucated a bit).
Just call block_write_full_page directly instead of going through
the ->writepage indirection.

Pass in a folio from mpage_readahead(). Also convert map_buffer_to_page()
to map_buffer_to_folio(). There's still no support for large folios here;
there are numerous places which depend on the folio being PAGE_SIZE.
The VM_BUG_ON prevents anyone from thinking that it will work.

All but two of the callers already have a folio; pass a folio into
try_to_free_buffers(). This removes the last user of cancel_dirty_page()
so remove that wrapper function too.

mpage_readpage still works in terms of pages, and has not been audited
for correctness with large folios, so include an assertion that the
filesystem is not passing it large folios. Convert all the filesystems
to call mpage_read_folio() instead of mpage_readpage().

the folio functions instead of the page functions, where they exist.

"This removes the write streams support in NVMe. No vendor ever really
shipped working support for this, and they are not interested in
supporting it.
With the NVMe support gone, we have nothing in the tree that supports
this. Remove passing around of the hints.
The only discussion point in this patchset imho is the fact that the
file specific write hint setting/getting fcntl helpers will now return
-1/EINVAL like they did before we supported write hints. No known
applications use these functions, I only know of one prototype that I
help do for RocksDB, and that's not used. That said, with a change
like this, it's always a bit controversial. Alternatively, we could
just make them return 0 and pretend it worked. It's placement based
hints after all"

similar type change.

Pass the block_device and operation that we plan to use this bio for to
bio_alloc to optimize the assignment. NULL/0 can be passed, both for the
passthrough case on a raw request_queue and to temporarily avoid
refactoring some nasty code.
Also move the gfp_mask argument after the nr_vecs argument for a much
more logical calling convention matching what most of the kernel does.

open code mpage_alloc in it's two callers and simplify the results
because of the context:
- __mpage_writepage always passes GFP_NOFS and can thus always sleep and
will never get a NULL return from bio_alloc at all.
- do_mpage_readpage can only get a non-sleeping context for readahead
which never sets PF_MEMALLOC and thus doesn't need the retry loop
either.
Both cases will never have __GFP_HIGH set.

It's often inconvenient to use BIO_MAX_PAGES due to min() requiring the
sign to be the same. Introduce bio_max_segs() and change BIO_MAX_PAGES to
be unsigned to make it easier for the users.
