Pull networking updates from Jakub Kicinski:
"One of the 'small improvements all over the place' releases for us.
It's hard to draw any direct comparisons because summer vacations
disrupted our patch processing (and presumably - generation) quite a
bit.
Quick and dirty count suggests we (Paolo and I) merged a very similar
number of net (632) and net-next (648) patches. This is not telling
the full story either because 1/3 to 1/2 of the net-next patches also
*seem* like AI-driven low priority fixes, cleanups and clarifications.
We are completely overwhelmed, of course. The glimmer of hope is that
we secured sufficient LLM budget and access (thank you Meta!) to run
reviews with multiple frontier models on each patch. This eliminates
some hallucinations. That said, in terms of review, the LLMs can only
do so much.
The sad truth is that our APIs (especially for rare events like PCIe
errors, timeouts etc) have always been racy, and now LLMs don't let us
ignore that. I expect our direction for the next release will be to
tweak the reviews a little bit more, but start shifting focus to
letting the LLMs take care of the busy work - managing patchwork,
automating common process complaints, editing commit messages, and
maybe applying patches which already got "reviewed-by" tags from
people we trust...

Pull VDSO updates from Thomas Gleixner:
- Consolidate the VDSO datastore further and provide support for
mlock_all() and prefaulting.
- Provide 32-bit legacy time related functionality only if
CONFIG_COMPAT_32BIT_TIME is enabled. The config switch exists,
but architecture code still exposes the legacy functionality even
disabled.
Clean this up by adding the missing guards and validating at build
time that the VDSO is legacy free if disabled.

"Add library APIs for most AES encryption modes that are used in the
kernel (ECB, CBC, CBC-CTS, CTR, XCTR, XTS, GCM, CCM).
These AES modes have many in-kernel users that are currently using the
crypto_skcipher or crypto_aead APIs. These existing APIs are difficult
to use and inefficient. Until now, the lack of proper library support
for these has been the main gap in the crypto library.
This set of changes is the next stage of addressing it:
- Implement the new APIs on top of the existing support for
single-block AES in the library.
- Fully document the new APIs.
- Migrate the only user of the old AES-GCM library API to the new,
more flexible API; then remove the old API and its implementation.
- Wire up the new APIs to the traditional crypto API by adding
crypto_skcipher and crypto_aead algorithms.
This makes the new APIs be covered by the traditional crypto API's
self-tests. It also makes them be already used for real on systems
that don't have architecture-optimized code for these modes.
But most importantly, this is a prerequisite for migrating the
architecture-optimized code for these AES modes (i.e.
arch/*/crypto/aes*) into the library, which as usual will eliminate
a lot of redundant "glue" code.
Note that unlike some of the other algorithms that have been migrated
to the library, e.g. SHA-512, for these AES modes there was too much
to get done in one cycle. Nor did it make sense to handle these modes
one at a time, because they tend to be coupled together or depend on
each other, especially in the architecture-optimized AES code.
Thus, most of the benefits (reductions in lines of code, performance
improvements, etc.) will follow in later cycles when
architecture-optimized code is migrated into the library and users of
crypto_skcipher and crypto_aead are updated to use the new APIs.
The design of the new APIs was informed by writing proof-of-concept
patches for many kernel subsystems currently accessing these same
algorithms via crypto_skcipher or crypto_aead (patches 18-33 of
https://lore.kernel.org/r/20260707053503.209874-1-ebiggers@kernel.org/).
While those patches will be resent for real later, the total diffstat
for them was negative 1905 lines. So clearly the new APIs are quite a
bit easier to use and align better with what users actually need.

"Bigger cleanups:
- The lockref dead-count handling is tidied up.
The open-coded check for a count below zero as the dead marker
relies on information the caller should not have.
- make put_mnt_ns() leave mounts connected. Destroying a mount
namespace disconnected its mounts from their mount points. So a
file descriptor still open on the parent of a mount point could be
used to peek under it.
Locked mounts were already kept connected to prevent exactly that.
But a mount is only locked when its tree is copied across a user
namespace boundary. So a mount namespace set up by a privileged
component had no locked mounts and its mounts were disconnected.
Passing UMOUNT_CONNECTED keeps every mount connected and prevents
that bug.
- vfs_prepare_mode() passes S_IFDIR for directories. I meant to fix
that ago but didn't get to it. So now someone finally did it.
This kills the exception where the mode could be 0 when a directory
was created whereas every other creation operation passed it
explicitly already.
- move long delayed work for ufs, jffs2, hfsplus, hfs and affs from
the per-cpu system_long_wq to the new unbound system_dfl_long_wq.
None of that work relies on per-cpu state and the work item is
enqueued with queue_delayed_work() whose timer is global anyway. So
it may as well benefit from scheduler task placement.
Smaller fixes and cleanups:
- unlock_buffer() and journal_end_buffer_io_sync() use
clear_and_wake_up_bit()
- the pipe page pools are unified into a single per-pipe pool and the

Add a KUnit test suite for the AES-CCM library API.
It consists of:
- All the shared test cases from aead-test-template.h. These include
extensive consistency tests, a "Monte-Carlo test", and a benchmark.
- Tests against hardcoded AES-CCM test vectors from external sources.
- Tests for CCM-specific message length validation.
To generate the expected aes_ccm_monte_carlo_checksum[] value, add a
script gen-aead-testvecs.py which computes it using python-cryptography.

Add aead-test-template.h which contains shared test logic for AEAD
algorithms. It's similar to the existing hash-test-template.h, which
contains shared test logic for hash algorithms.
The initial use cases for this will be AES-CCM and AES-GCM.
It may be used by the existing ChaCha20Poly1305 test suite in the future
as well, though the ChaCha20Poly1305 API currently lacks some of the
functionality that the "template" expects to be present.

GCM and CCM. FIPS labs can consider such designs to meet the threshold
for separate self-tests to be needed.
Therefore, add FIPS self-tests for encryption and decryption in these

ECB, CBC, CBC-CTS, CTR, and XTS. FIPS labs can consider such designs to
meet the threshold for separate self-tests to be needed.
The inverse direction of the block cipher also needs to be exercised,
which the existing CMAC self-test doesn't do.
Therefore, add FIPS self-tests for encryption and decryption in these
modes as well as the "bare" AES.

Currently, CPU backtrace functions cannot be called from loadable
modules because the underlying helper arch_trigger_cpumask_backtrace()
is not exported.
Instead of exporting arch_trigger_cpumask_backtrace() individually
across every supported architecture, introduce and export a common
helper, cpumask_backtrace(), in lib/nmi_backtrace.c. Update the four
inline CPU backtrace macros in include/linux/nmi.h to route through this
centralized helper.

With the changes that enable preempt count to track IRQ disabling
nesting, we don't have enough bits in 32-bit preempt count
implementation, as a result we move NMI nesting bits out of the 32-bit
preempt count. However on the architectures that can support 64-bit
preempt count implementation, we can keep the NMI nesting bits in the
32-bit preempt count and avoid maintaining NMI nesting bits outside of
the same cache line.
Therefore HAS_SEPARATE_PREEMPT_RESCHED_BITS is introduced to allow
architectures to select this. Note that under this Kconfig, preempt
count is maintained in a 64-bit word however preempt_count() still
remains as an int because all the effective bits still fit in
(previously we mask out NEED_RESCHED bit in preempt_count()). This
should make no functional changes for existing preempt_count() users.
Enable this for x86_64 along with the introduction of the Kconfig.

assoc_array_walk() masks off the bits past shortcut->skip_to_level in the
word that contains skip_to_level, gated on
round_up(sc_level, ASSOC_ARRAY_KEY_CHUNK_SIZE) > skip_to_level.
That guard is wrong in two opposite ways:
- When sc_level is word-aligned (every word after the first) round_up()
is a no-op, so the guard is sc_level > skip_to_level and never fires for
the word that holds skip_to_level. A shortcut that spans more than one
word and ends in the middle of its last word leaves that word untrimmed,
and its stale high bits leak into the dissimilarity word and can steer
the walk down the wrong descendant.
- When sc_level is unaligned (the first word) and skip_to_level sits on
the next chunk boundary, sc_level + CHUNK would exceed skip_to_level and
fire the trim with shift = skip_to_level & CHUNK_MASK == 0, which clears
the whole dissimilarity word and makes a differing shortcut compare
equal.
Use the end of the chunk that contains sc_level instead:
skip_to_level < round_down(sc_level, CHUNK) + CHUNK
For an aligned sc_level whose word holds skip_to_level this now fires (the
first bug); for an unaligned sc_level with skip_to_level on the following
boundary it does not, so shift is never 0 when the branch runs and the trim
never clears the whole word.

Add support for AES-CCM to the crypto library.
This will be used to provide a streamlined implementation of the
"ccm(aes)" crypto_aead algorithm. Most users of "ccm(aes)" will also be
able to switch to the library, which as usual will be faster and
simpler, e.g.:
- fs/smb/client/
- fs/smb/server/
- net/mac80211/
- net/mac802154/
(I've already written proof-of-concept patches for all the above, and
they helped inform the API design.)
As in the AES-GCM API, incremental operation is supported. It has to be
used carefully, especially when decrypting, but it makes the API general
enough to work well for all users.
The AES-CCM library code calls aes_cbcmac_blocks() directly, bypassing
the higher-level aes_cbcmac_init(), aes_cbcmac_update(), and
aes_cbcmac_final(). The latter set of functions is useful only for
AES-CCM, so they don't make sense to keep around and will be removed
once the "ccm(aes)" crypto_aead starts using the AES-CCM library.
Initial test coverage is provided by the crypto_aead support added in a
later commit. I'm planning a KUnit test suite as well.

Add support for AES-GCM to the crypto library.
This will be used to provide streamlined implementations of the
"gcm(aes)" and "rfc4106(gcm(aes))" crypto_aead algorithms. Most users
of these will also be able to switch to the library, which as usual will
be faster and simpler, e.g.:

- fs/smb/client/
- fs/smb/server/
- net/ceph/messenger_v2.c
- net/mac80211/ (for both GMAC and GCMP)
- net/tipc/crypto.c
- security/keys/trusted-keys/trusted_dcp.c
(I've already written proof-of-concept patches for all the above, and
they helped inform the API design.)
As usual, the architecture-optimized AES-GCM code will be migrated into
the library as well (using the hooks provided in this commit as well as
the GHASH ones), eliminating lots of repetitive boilerplate code.
Incremental en/decryption is supported. Incremental operation is a bit
controversial in AEAD APIs because users have to be careful not to
consume any decrypted data that hasn't been authenticated yet. But I do
think it's the right choice here. It's not fundamentally different from
the existing incremental MAC APIs, and it's the only approach that's
general enough to work well for all users in the kernel:
- An array of virtually-addressed buffers (like that used by
BoringSSL's EVP_AEAD_CTX_sealv() and EVP_AEAD_CTX_openv()) doesn't
work in the kernel in general, since in some cases the data for a
single AES-GCM message is contained in a large number of highmem
pages that each need to be mapped into memory individually. That
can be done efficiently only by using CPU-local mappings, but there
is a limited number of those.
Ceph messenger v2 is a great example, as it can send or receive up
to 32 MiB in a single AES-GCM message. And it needs the
en/decrypted data to go into a (potentially large) number of bvecs
provided by a custom iterator, as well as into four
virtually-addressed buffers, two of which can be large buffers in
the vmalloc region.
Even just allocating an array big enough to store all the pointers
can be problematic in the kernel. There are cases in which
decryption runs in GFP_NOIO context or even in softirq context,
where memory allocations are not as reliable as they normally are.
- Meanwhile, 'struct scatterlist' (the choice of crypto_aead) has
turned out to be really inconvenient for anyone who *does* just have
virtually-addressed buffers. This is especially true if they can be
in the vmalloc region, including the stack, as in that case the
conversion to a scatterlist has to be done page-by-page.
And even for users who have all of their data in bare 'struct page',
none of them actually use 'struct scatterlist' as their native data
structure anyway. They actually use skbs, bvecs, or other formats.
- iov_iter is attractive, but ultimately not general enough either
(considering the Ceph case for example), but also too general in
some ways (like having support for userspace addresses). Additional
iter types like ITER_SKB would help a bit, but bloating iov_iter
with more types would reduce performance elsewhere in the kernel.
Initial test coverage is provided by the crypto_aead support added in a
later commit. I'm planning a KUnit test suite as well.

IPv6 BIG TCP doesn't require stripping the HBH in all various
combinations in tunneled traffic, adding BIG TCP becomes feasible.
Patch 01 adds accessors for the length field in the UDP header, as
suggested by Paolo in review. The usage of udp_set_len is then added in
the following patches that start using length=0 in BIG TCP UDP packets.
Patches 02-04 close the gaps that prevent BIG TCP packets from going
through UDP tunnel code.
Patch 05 validates packets in udp_gro_receive to exclude packets with
length=0 from GRO aggregation.
Patch 06 is for proper formatting in tcpdump (set UDP len to 0 rather
than a trimmed value on overflow).
Patches 07-08 bump up tso_max_size for VXLAN and GENEVE.
Patch 09 adds selftests.

Since BIG TCP for UDP tunnels will start using len=0 in the UDP header
as an indicator of a GSO packet bigger than 65535 bytes, this commit
introduces the following getter and setters to use tree-wide, in order
to explicitly mark places where len=0 may be expected, and handle them
properly:
1. udp_set_len() sets uh->len to its real value if it's not bigger than
65535, and to 0 otherwise: to be used in GSO context with aggregated
packets.
2. udp_set_len_short() is to be used when the length is known to fit 16
bits. It WARNs when the caller tries to assign a bigger value if
CONFIG_DEBUG_NET=y.
3. udp_get_len_short() returns len in host byte order: to be used on the
RX side to deal with non-aggregated packets, or to access the raw value
of the len field.
4. udp_get_len() decodes uh->len set by udp_set_len(). It checks whether
the packet is GSO to guard from malformed packets.
At the moment udp_set_len() is not used, a following commit will start
using it after enabling len>65535 for GSO.
Raw uh->len (in network byte order) is still accessed in a few places
for checksum calculation purposes, and to decode len=0 in udpv6_rcv for
jumbograms. udp_rcv and udpv6_rcv will be addressed by the commit that
starts using udp_set_len() to set UDP len=0 for BIG TCP packets in UDP
tunnels.

Commit af69016dab ("lib: test_hmm: implement a device release method")
moved the initial dmirror_allocate_chunk() call before cdev_device_add().
That means the struct cdev has not been added yet, so cdev_add() has not
initialized mdevice->cdevice.dev.
The coherent-device range selection uses the device minor to choose
between spm_addr_dev0 and spm_addr_dev1. Reading
MINOR(mdevice->cdevice.dev) before cdev_add() therefore always sees an
uninitialized dev_t. As a result, both coherent devices select the same
physical range, and adding the second device fails due to the overlapping
dev_pagemap range.
Use mdevice->device.devt instead. It is initialized in
dmirror_device_init() before dmirror_allocate_chunk() is called and is the
same dev_t later passed to cdev_device_add().

Add support for AES-XTS to the crypto library.
This will be used to provide a streamlined implementation of the
"xts(aes)" crypto_skcipher algorithm. I'm also planning to use this
directly in fscrypt and blk-crypto-fallback.
As usual, the architecture-optimized AES-XTS code will be migrated into
the library as well (using the hooks provided in this commit),
eliminating lots of repetitive boilerplate code. Compared to direct
implementation of "xts(aes)", I've also eliminated the requirement for
architectures to implement ciphertext stealing, as the library just
handles it portably instead. That will simplify things considerably.
Initial test coverage is provided by the crypto_skcipher support added
in a later commit. I'm planning a KUnit test suite as well.

Add support for AES-CTR and AES-XCTR to the crypto library.
These will be used to provide streamlined implementations of the
"ctr(aes)" and "xctr(aes)" crypto_skcipher algorithms. Most users of
"ctr(aes)" will also be able to switch to the library, which as usual
will be simpler and faster, e.g.:
- net/mac80211/fils_aead.c
- net/mac802154/llsec.c
As usual, the architecture-optimized AES-CTR and AES-XCTR code will be
migrated into the library as well (using the hooks provided in this
commit), eliminating lots of repetitive boilerplate code.
This is also a prerequisite for supporting AES-GCM, AES-CCM, and
AES-HCTR2 in the crypto library.
Initial test coverage is provided by the crypto_skcipher support added
in a later commit. I'm planning a KUnit test suite as well.

This will be used to provide a streamlined implementation of the
"ecb(aes)" crypto_skcipher algorithm. fs/crypto/keysetup_v1.c will also
use aes_ecb_encrypt() directly.
As usual, the architecture-optimized AES-ECB code will be migrated into
the library as well (using the hooks provided in this commit),
eliminating lots of repetitive boilerplate code.
ECB is obsolete of course, but we need this for parity with the
traditional API and to support some odd users of ECB in the kernel.
Initial test coverage is provided by the crypto_skcipher support added
in a later commit. I'm planning a KUnit test suite as well.
Create a documentation file libcrypto-unauth-encryption.rst to hold the
documentation for this and other unauthenticated encryption modes.
