f418d68d71 tracing/eprobe: Fix exact system name matching in eprobe_dyn_event_match()
eprobe_dyn_event_match() checks if the target event system in argv[0]
matches ep->event_system using strncmp(ep->event_system, argv[0], len).
However, if ep->event_system is longer than len (e.g. "eprobes" vs
"ep/event"), strncmp() still returns 0 because the first len characters
match.

Check that ep->event_system[len] is '\0' to ensure exact system name
matching.

8ce20bfba4 tracing/probes: Fix potential underflow in LEN_OR_ZERO macro
In __set_print_fmt(), LEN_OR_ZERO is defined as (len ? len - pos : 0).
If len is non-zero but smaller than pos, len - pos evaluates to a negative
integer. When passed as a size argument to snprintf(), this negative value
is cast to a large unsigned size_t, bypassing buffer size limits.

Ensure len > pos before subtracting to avoid integer underflow.

a9d6fb2840 tracing/probes: Prevent out-of-bounds write in __trace_probe_log_err()
If trace_probe_log.argc is 0 in __trace_probe_log_err(), the loop
constructing the command string will not execute and p will remain equal to
command. Writing to *(p - 1) will cause an out-of-bounds access before
command. This should not happen, but better to be treated.

Reject if trace_probe_log.argc is 0.

15f197856d tracing/probes: Avoid temporary buffer truncation in trace_probe_match_command_args()
In trace_probe_match_command_args(), a stack buffer buf[MAX_ARGSTR_LEN + 1]
(256 bytes) is used to format "<name>=<comm>". However, since name can
be up to 32 bytes (MAX_ARG_NAME_LEN) and comm up to 255 bytes
(MAX_ARGSTR_LEN), the formatted string can exceed 256 bytes and get
truncated by snprintf(), causing spurious argument matching failures.

Instead of formatting into a temporary buffer on stack, compare the
argument name, the '=' delimiter, and the comm expression directly.

ec082d0b97 tracing/remotes: Fix leak in trace_remote_alloc_buffer() error path
If page allocation fails in trace_remote_alloc_buffer(), desc->nr_cpus
is not yet incremented for the current CPU. As a consequence, on error,
half-allocated rb_desc will not be freed in trace_remote_free_buffer().

Increment desc->nr_cpus as soon as the first allocation for the current
CPU has succeeded.

50fd6dd755 tracing/user_events: Fix use-after-free in user_event_mm_dup()
user_event_mm_dup() walks the parent mm's enabler list locklessly under
rcu_read_lock() during fork() (from copy_process()); it does not take
event_mutex:

	rcu_read_lock();
	list_for_each_entry_rcu(enabler, &old_mm->enablers, mm_enablers_link)
		enabler->event = user_event_get(orig->event);

user_event_enabler_destroy() removes an enabler from that list with
list_del_rcu() and then, without waiting for a grace period, drops the
enabler's user_event reference with user_event_put() and frees the enabler
with kfree(). A reader that loaded the enabler before the list_del_rcu()
can still be walking it, which leads to two use-after-frees:

 - kfree(enabler) frees the enabler while that reader dereferences
   enabler->event.

 - user_event_put() may drop the last reference to the user_event, which
   is then freed (via delayed_destroy_user_event() on a work queue), while
   the same reader does user_event_get(orig->event) on it.

Both are reachable by an unprivileged task that can open user_events_data:
one multithreaded process that registers an enabler and then concurrently
unregisters it and calls fork() triggers the race. KASAN reports a
slab-use-after-free in user_event_mm_dup() during clone(), with a
"refcount_t: addition on 0" warning when the user_event is freed.

The enabler use-after-free was found first; the user_event one was reported
by XIAO WU, and the earlier enabler-only fix did not address it.

Defer both the user_event_put() and the kfree(enabler) to a work item
queued with queue_rcu_work(), so they run only after an RCU grace period,
once all readers walking the enabler list have finished. The put must run
in process context because user_event_put() takes event_mutex on the last
reference, so a work queue is used rather than call_rcu(). The now-unlocked
put lets the locked argument of user_event_enabler_destroy() be removed;
all callers are updated.

1e67bb60bb tracing: Add a no-rcu-check version of trace_##event##_enabled()
Tracepoints require that RCU is watching. To prevent them from being used
in places that RCU is not watching, the trace_##event() macro always
calls rcu_is_watching() even when the event is not enabled and warns if
RCU is not watching. This is to make sure a warning is triggered even if
the tracepoint is never enabled (as it is only a bug when it is).

It was noticed that tracepoints could be hidden within
trace_#event#_enabled() calls, which are used to do extra work for the
tracepoint only if the tracepoint is enabled. But this also can hide the
fact that a tracepoint is placed in a location that can be called when RCU
is not watching.

Commit 9764e731ef ("tracepoint: Add lockdep rcu_is_watching() check to
trace_##name##_enabled()") added a check to the trace_##event##_enabled()
macro to make sure RCU is watching when it is called to make sure not to
hide the bug of a tracepoint being called when RCU is not watching.

There is one case in the irq_disable tracepoint where it is within a
trace_irq_disable_enabled() block, but it checks if RCU is watching, and
if it isn't, it makes a call to ct_irq_enter() that makes RCU watch again.
But because trace_irq_disable_enabled() now checks if RCU is watching and
will trigger if it isn't. This is a false warning as the code within
the block handles this case.

Add a new internal macro __trace_##event##_enabled() that doesn't check if
RCU is watching, and convert the irq_enable/disable tracepoints over to
it.

0a6070839b tracing: Prevent out-of-bounds read in glob matching
String event fields are not necessarily NUL-terminated, so the filter
predicate functions (filter_pred_string(), filter_pred_strloc() and
filter_pred_strrelloc()) pass the field length to the regex match
callbacks, and the length-aware matchers honour it.

regex_match_glob() was the exception: it ignored the length and called
glob_match(), which scans the string until it hits a NUL byte. Some
string fields are not NUL-terminated. One example is the dynamic char
array of the xfs_* namespace tracepoints, which is copied without a
trailing NUL. For such a field, glob matching reads past the end of
the event field, causing a KASAN slab-out-of-bounds read in
glob_match(), reached via regex_match_glob() and filter_match_preds()
from the xfs_lookup tracepoint.

Add a length-bounded glob_match_len() and use it from regex_match_glob()
so glob matching always stops at the field boundary. The matching loop
is factored into a shared helper so glob_match() keeps its behaviour.

c3e9460467 tracing: Fix NULL pointer dereference in func_set_flag()
func_set_flag() dereferences tr->current_trace_flags before verifying
that the current tracer is actually the function tracer. When the active
tracer has been switched away from "function" (e.g., to "wakeup_rt"),
tr->current_trace_flags can be NULL, leading to a NULL pointer
dereference and kernel crash.

The call chain that triggers this is:

  trace_options_write()
    -> __set_tracer_option()
      -> trace->set_flag()          /* func_set_flag */

In func_set_flag(), the first operation is:

  if (!!set == !!(tr->current_trace_flags->val & bit))

This dereferences tr->current_trace_flags unconditionally. The safety
check that guards against a non-function tracer:

  if (tr->current_trace != &function_trace)
      return 0;

is placed *after* the dereference, which is too late.

This was observed with the following crash dump:

The disassembly confirms the fault:

At the time of the crash:
  tr->current_trace_flags = 0x0 (NULL)
  tr->current_trace = wakeup_rt_tracer (not function_trace)

The scenario is that a process opens a function tracer option file (such
as "func_stack_trace"), then the current tracer is switched to another
tracer (e.g., "wakeup_rt"), which sets current_trace_flags to NULL. When
the process subsequently writes to the option file, func_set_flag() is
invoked and crashes on the NULL dereference.

Fix this by moving the current_trace check before the
current_trace_flags dereference, so that func_set_flag() returns early
when the function tracer is not active.

af05b4e062 ring-buffer: Fix ring_buffer_read_page() copying only one event per page
Commit 8928e4a3be ("ring-buffer: Show persistent buffer dropped events
in trace_pipe file") split the "commit" variable in
ring_buffer_read_page() into "commit" (raw) and "size" (masked page
size), but the inner copy loop's terminator was changed to compare rpos
against "event_size" instead of "size".

rpos is the cumulative read offset within the page; event_size is the
length of the single event just copied. The loop thus breaks after the
first event, so only one event is copied per call. This regresses the
per-event memcpy path (partial reads, the active commit page, and
mapped/remote buffers) used by splice/trace_pipe_raw and mmap consumers
into a one-event-at-a-time read.

Compare rpos against the page size as the original code did.

a20b08de86 tracing: Remove unused ret assignment in tracing_set_tracer()
In tracing_set_tracer(), the assignment 'ret = 0' following the
__tracing_resize_ring_buffer() error check is a dead store. After
this point, all subsequent code paths either return with a constant
value (-EINVAL, 0, -EBUSY) or reassign ret before reading it
(tracing_arm_snapshot_locked, tracer_init).

Remove the unnecessary assignment.

No functional change.

c37e0a4b79 ring-buffer: Fix event length with forced 8-byte alignment
When RB_FORCE_8BYTE_ALIGNMENT is true, rb_calculate_event_length()
reserves the space of event->array[0] for placing the data length and
rb_update_event() stores the data length in event->array[0]
accordingly. As a result the whole event length will add extra 4 bytes
for sizeof(event.array[0]) unconditionally.

But ring_buffer_event_length() only subtracts the
sizeof(event->array[0]) for events larger than RB_MAX_SMALL_DATA +
sizeof(event->array[0]). As a result, small events on architectures
with RB_FORCE_8BYTE_ALIGNMENT=true report a data length that is 4
bytes larger than expected.

To fix it, add the RB_FORCE_8BYTE_ALIGNMENT as a condition to subtract
the size of that length field whenever RB_FORCE_8BYTE_ALIGNMENT is
true.

This issue is observed in a riscv64 kernel with
CONFIG_HAVE_64BIT_ALIGNED_ACCESS set to y, when we run ftrace selftest
trace_marker_raw.tc, we get the weird log: for cases where the id is
1..100, the number of data field is 8*N, but once id exceeds 100, the
number of data field becomes 8*N+4:

After applying this change, the number of data field keeps being 8*N+4
consistently.

367c49d6e2 tracing/fprobe: Fix NULL pointer dereference in fprobe_fgraph_entry()
fprobe_fgraph_entry() sizes a shadow-stack reservation in one walk of
the per-ip fprobe list and fills it in a second walk, both under
rcu_read_lock() only. A fprobe registered on an already-live ip can
become visible between the two walks, so the fill walk processes an
exit_handler the sizing walk did not count and used runs past
reserved_words. If the sizing walk counted nothing, fgraph_data is NULL
and the first write_fprobe_header() faults:

206b25c090 tracing: eprobe: read the complete FILTER_PTR_STRING pointer
For a char * element in an event, the FILTER_PTR_STRING filter type is
used. When the event occurs, a pointer is stored in the ringbuffer.

If an eprobe references such a char * element of a "base event", the
stored pointer is truncated when it's read from the ringbuffer.

$ cd /sys/kernel/tracing

$ echo 1 > events/eprobes/enable

$ echo 0 > events/eprobes/enable

The problem is in get_event_field

	val = (unsigned long)(*(char *)addr);

addr points to the position in the ringbuffer where the pointer was
stored. The assignment reads only the lowest byte of the pointer.

Fix the cast to read the whole pointer. The output of the test above
is now

251a8fe1b9 tracing/probes: Remove WARN_ON_ONCE from parse_btf_arg
Sashiko found that user can cause this WARN_ON_ONCE() easily
with adding a kprobe event based on a raw address with BTF
parameter.

Since this is not an unexpected condition, remove the
WARN_ON_ONCE().

d5dc200c3a bpf: Add missing access_ok call to copy_user_syms
As reported by sashiko we use __get_user without prior access_ok call on the
user space pointer. Adding the missing call for the whole pointer array.

Plus removing the err check in the error path, because it's not needed and
also we can return -ENOMEM directly from the first kvmalloc_array fail path.

 - Do not invalidate entire buffer for invalid sub-buffers

   For the persistent ring buffer, if one sub-buffer is found to be
   invalid, it invalidates the entire per CPU ring buffer. This can lose
   a lot of valuable data if there's some corruption with the writes to
   the buffer not syncing properly on a hard crash. Instead, if a
   sub-buffer is found to be invalid, simply zero it out and mark it for
   "missed events".

   When the persistent ring buffer is read and a sub-buffer that was
   cleared due to being invalid on boot up is discovered, the output
   will show "[LOST EVENTS]" to let the user know that events were
   missing at that location. Displaying the events from valid buffers
   can still be useful.

 - Add a test to be able to test corrupted sub-buffers

   If a persistent ring buffer is created as "ptraingtest" and the new
   config that adds the test is enabled, when a panic happens, the
   kernel will randomly corrupt one of the per CPU ring buffers. On boot
   up, the sub-buffers with the corruption should be cleared and
   flagged. When reading this buffer, the missed events should should
   [LOST EVENTS].

 - Add commit number in the sub-buffer meta debug info

   The commit is used to know the content of a meta page. Add it to the
   buffer_meta file that is shown for each per CPU buffer.

 - Clean up the persistent ring buffer validation code

   Add some helper functions and make variable names more consistent.

 - Replace strcat() and strcpy() with seq_buf() logic

   The code for synthetic events uses a series of strcat() and strcpy()
   which can be error prone. Replace them with seq_buf() logic that does
   all the necessary bound checking.

 - Add a lockdep rcu_is_watching() to trace_##event##_enabled() call

   The trace_##event##_enabled() is a static branch that is true if the
   "event" is enabled. But this can hide bugs if this logic is in a
   location where RCU is disabled and not "watching". It would only
   trigger if lockdep is enabled and the event is enabled.

   Add a "rcu_is_watching()" warning if lockdep is enabled in that
   helper function to trigger regardless if the event is enabled or not.

 - Remove the local variable in the trace_printk() macro

   For name space integrity, remove the _______STR variable in the
   trace_printk() macro for using the sizeof() macro directly.

 - Use guard()s for the trace_recursion_record.c file

 - Fix typo in a comment of eventfs_callback() kerneldoc

 - Use trace_call__##event() in events within trace_##event##_enabled()

   A couple of events are called within an if block guarded by
   trace_##event##_enabled(). That is a static key that is only enabled
   when the event is enabled. The trace_call_##event() calls the
   tracepoint code directly without adding a redundant static key for
   that check.

 - Allow perf to read synthetic events

   Currently, perf does not have the ability to enable a synthetic
   event. If it does, it will either cause a kernel warning or error
   with "No such device". Synthetic events are not much different than
   kprobes and perf can handle fine with a few modifications.

 - Replace printk(KERN_WARNING ...) with pr_warn()

 - Replace krealloc() on an array with krealloc_array()

 - Fix README file path name for synthetic events

 - Change tracing_map tracing_map_array to use a flexible array

   Instead of allocating a separate pointer to hold the pages field of
   tracing_map_array, allocate the pages field as a flexible array when
   allocating the structure.

 - Fold trace_iterator_increment() into trace_find_next_entry_inc()

   The function trace_iterator_increment() was only used by
   trace_find_next_entry_inc(). It's not big enough to be a helper
   function for one user. Fold it into its caller.

 - Make field_var_str field a flexible array of hist_elt_data

   Instead of allocating a separate pointer for the field_var_str array
   of the hist_elt_data structure, allocate it as a flexible array when
   allocating the structure.

 - Disable KCOV for trace_irqsoff.c

   Like trace_preemptirq.c, trace_irqsoff.c has code that will crash
   when KCOV is enabled on ARM. The irqsoff tracing can be called on ARM
   because the irqsoff tracing code can be run from early interrupt code
   and produce coverage unrelated to syscall inputs.

 - Fix warning in __unregister_ftrace_function() called by perf

   Perf calls unregister_ftrace_function() without checking if its
   ftrace_ops has already been unregistered. There's an error path where
   on clean up it will unregister the ftrace_ops even if it wasn't
   registered and causes a warning.

26330a9226 bpf: Add support to specify uprobe_multi target via file descriptor
Allow uprobe_multi link to identify the target binary by an already
opened file descriptor.

Adding new BPF_F_UPROBE_MULTI_PATH_FD flag and the path_fd field for
the attr.link_create.uprobe_multi struct.

When the flag is set, we resolve the target from path_fd, without the
flag, we keep the existing string path behavior.

I don't see a use case for supporting O_PATH file descriptors, because
we need to read the binary first to get probes offsets, so I'm using
the CLASS(fd, f), which fails for O_PATH fds.

Adding new BPF_TRACE_FSESSION_MULTI program attach type, that follows
the BPF_TRACE_FSESSION behaviour but on the tracing_multi link.

Such program is called on entry and exit of the attached function
and allows to pass cookie value from entry to exit execution.

c1d32dea5d bpf: Add support for tracing multi link
Adding new link to allow to attach program to multiple function
BTF IDs. The link is represented by struct bpf_tracing_multi_link.

To configure the link, new fields are added to bpf_attr::link_create
to pass array of BTF IDs;

Each BTF ID represents function (BTF_KIND_FUNC) that the link will
attach bpf program to.

We use previously added bpf_trampoline_multi_attach/detach functions
to attach/detach the link.

Note this is supported only for archs (x86_64) with ftrace direct and
have single ops support.

Tracepoint handlers no longer run with preemption disabled by default
since a46023d561 ("tracing: Guard __DECLARE_TRACE() use of

Change the rule for preempt_off to preempt > 0.

700782ec8f rv: Add automatic cleanup handlers for per-task HA monitors
Hybrid automata monitors may start timers, depending on the model, these
may remain active on an exiting task and cause false positives or even
access freed memory.

Add an enable/disable hook in the HA code, currently only populated by
the per-task handler for registration and deregistration.
This hooks to the sched_process_exit event and ensures the timer is
stopped for every exiting task. The handler is enabled automatically but
may be disabled, for instance if the monitor uses the event for another
purpose (but should still manually ensure timers are stopped).

69efd863a7 tracing/eprobes: Allow use of BTF names to dereference pointers
Add syntax to the parsing of eprobes to be able to typecast a trace event
field that is a pointer to a structure.

Currently, a dereference must be a number, where the user has to figure
out manually the offset of a member of a structure that they want to
dereference.

But for event probes that records a field that happens to be a pointer to
a structure, it cannot dereference these values with BTF naming, but
must use numerical offsets.

For example, to find out what device a sk_buff is pointing to in the
net_dev_xmit trace event, one must first use gdb to find the offsets of the
members of the structures:

And then use the raw numbers to dereference:

585abc02be tracing: Replace BUG_ON with lockdep_assert_held in uprobe_buffer functions
Replace BUG_ON(!mutex_is_locked(&event_mutex)) with
lockdep_assert_held(&event_mutex) in uprobe_buffer_enable() and
uprobe_buffer_disable().

BUG_ON() will crash the kernel. mutex_is_locked() only checks
if any task holds lock,but not the caller task. lockdep_assert_held()
also check current task for lock and no crash on true condition.
