86e3bbc716 firmware: google: Skip failing entries instead of aborting populate
coreboot_table_populate() registers devices one by one. If
device_register() fails for one entry, the current code returns
immediately, leaving previously registered devices orphaned on the
coreboot bus with no cleanup path.

Since coreboot table entries are independent of each other, a failure
on one entry should not prevent the others from being registered.
This mirrors the strategy used by of_platform_populate(), which skips
individual failures rather than aborting.

Move ptr_entry increment before device_register(), log a warning on
failure, and continue the loop rather than aborting.

7b1a1af455 firmware: google: Add bounds checks in coreboot_table_populate()
coreboot_table_populate() iterates over firmware-provided table entries
with no validation that the entries stay within the mapped memory
region.  A corrupt table with a large `entry->size` advances `ptr_entry`
past the mapped region, causing an out-of-bounds read on the next
iteration.

Add a check before dereferencing `ptr_entry` to ensure the entry header
is readable, and a second check after reading `entry->size` to ensure
the full entry stays within the mapped region.

Pass `len` from coreboot_table_probe() into coreboot_table_populate() to
make the mapped region size available for validation.

bf4afc53b7 Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

69050f8d6d treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

a29a1f0ec8 drm/sysfb: corebootdrm: Add DRM driver for coreboot framebuffers
Add corebootdrm, a DRM driver for coreboot framebuffers. The driver
supports a pre-initialized framebuffer with various packed RGB formats.
The driver code is fairly small and uses the same logic as the other
sysfb drivers. Most of the implementation comes from existing sysfb
helpers.

Until now, coreboot relied on simpledrm or simplefb for boot-up graphics
output. Initialize the platform device for corebootdrm in the same place
in framebuffer_probe(). With a later commit, the simple-framebuffer should
be removed.

b44308c864 firmware: google: Init coreboot bus with subsys_initcall()
Using module_init()/device_initcall() is too late to initialize
the coreboot bus, as there might already be drivers that depend
on it.

So far this hasn't been a problem, as coreboot controls all device
creation. Initializing the coreboot bus earlier in subsys_initcall()
will allow for external coreboot drivers to register themselves
with device_initcall(). Prepares coreboot to support additional
coreboot drivers from other subsystems.

0d847e16ca firmware: google: framebuffer: Tie platform device to PCI hardware
Use the PCI device as parent of the system-framebuffer device instead
of the coreboot device. Prevents SIGBUS or SIGSEG after hot-unplug of
the PCI device while the framebuffer is active.

The simple-framebuffer device depends on the PCI hardware, so this
device needs to be its parent. The current coreboot parent is no
longer needed after the system-framebuffer device has been created.

On systems without PCI or if no PCI parent device could be found,
the platform device hangs on the platform bus directly.

The fix here is similar to code in sysfb, which contained that same
bug.

94918485d2 firmware: google: framebuffer: Init memory resource with helper macro
Initialize framebuffer memory resource with DEFINE_RES_MEM() instead
of open-coding the setup.

While at it, drop the resource name to make the kernel use the device
name of the simple-framebuffer device for the resource. The latter
includes a device number. While the meaning of the resource name is
somewhat fuzzy and varies across entries in /proc/iomem, showing the
device name seems more helpful than showing a fixed name.

f3850d399d firmware: google: framebuffer: Do not mark framebuffer as busy
Remove the flag IORESOURCE_BUSY flag from coreboot's framebuffer
resource. It prevents simpledrm from successfully requesting the
range for its own use; resulting in errors such as

[    2.775430] simple-framebuffer simple-framebuffer.0: [drm] could not acquire memory region [mem 0x80000000-0x80407fff flags 0x80000200]

As with other uses of simple-framebuffer, the simple-framebuffer
device should only declare it's I/O resources, but not actively use
them.

5cd28bd28c firmware: google: framebuffer: Do not unregister platform device
The native driver takes over the framebuffer aperture by removing the
system- framebuffer platform device. Afterwards the pointer in drvdata
is dangling. Remove the entire logic around drvdata and let the kernel's
aperture helpers handle this. The platform device depends on the native
hardware device instead of the coreboot device anyway.

When commit 851b4c1453 ("firmware: coreboot: Add coreboot framebuffer
driver") added the coreboot framebuffer code, the kernel did not support
device-based aperture management. Instead native driviers only removed
the conflicting fbdev device. At that point, unregistering the framebuffer
device most likely worked correctly. It was definitely broken after
commit d9702b2a21 ("fbdev/simplefb: Do not use struct
fb_info.apertures"). So take this commit for the Fixes tag. Earlier
releases might work depending on the native hardware driver.

5770e9f237 firmware: Switch back to struct platform_driver::remove()
After commit 0edb555a65 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove()
return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for
platform drivers.

Convert all platform drivers below drivers/firmware to use .remove(),
with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As
.remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done
by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer.

67f488dff1 firmware: coreboot: Don't register a pdev if screen_info data is present
On coreboot platforms, a system framebuffer may be provided to the Linux
kernel by filling a LB_TAG_FRAMEBUFFER entry in the coreboot table. But
a coreboot payload (e.g: SeaBIOS) could also provide its own framebuffer
information to the Linux kernel.

If that's the case, arch x86 boot code will fill the global screen_info
data and this used by the Generic System Framebuffers (sysfb) framework,
to register a platform device with pdata about the system's framebuffer.

But later, the framebuffer_coreboot driver will try to do the same and
attempt to register a "simple-framebuffer" platform device (using the
information from the coreboot table), which will lead to an error due a
device with the same name already being registered:

    sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/bus/platform/devices/simple-framebuffer.0'
    ...
    coreboot: could not register framebuffer
    framebuffer coreboot8: probe with driver framebuffer failed with error -17

To prevent this issue, make the framebuffer_core driver to not register
a platform device if the global struct screen_info data has been filled.

Pull driver core updates from Greg KH:
 "Here is the big set of driver core changes for 6.11-rc1.

  Lots of stuff in here, with not a huge diffstat, but apis are evolving
  which required lots of files to be touched. Highlights of the changes
  in here are:

   - platform remove callback api final fixups (Uwe took many releases
     to get here, finally!)

   - Rust bindings for basic firmware apis and initial driver-core
     interactions.

     It's not all that useful for a "write a whole driver in rust" type
     of thing, but the firmware bindings do help out the phy rust
     drivers, and the driver core bindings give a solid base on which
     others can start their work.

     There is still a long way to go here before we have a multitude of
     rust drivers being added, but it's a great first step.

   - driver core const api changes.

     This reached across all bus types, and there are some fix-ups for
     some not-common bus types that linux-next and 0-day testing shook
     out.

     This work is being done to help make the rust bindings more safe,
     as well as the C code, moving toward the end-goal of allowing us to
     put driver structures into read-only memory. We aren't there yet,
     but are getting closer.

   - minor devres cleanups and fixes found by code inspection

   - arch_topology minor changes

   - other minor driver core cleanups

  All of these have been in linux-next for a very long time with no
  reported problems"

d69d804845 driver core: have match() callback in struct bus_type take a const *
In the match() callback, the struct device_driver * should not be
changed, so change the function callback to be a const *.  This is one
step of many towards making the driver core safe to have struct
device_driver in read-only memory.

Because the match() callback is in all busses, all busses are modified
to handle this properly.  This does entail switching some container_of()
calls to container_of_const() to properly handle the constant *.

For some busses, like PCI and USB and HV, the const * is cast away in
the match callback as those busses do want to modify those structures at
this point in time (they have a local lock in the driver structure.)
That will have to be changed in the future if they wish to have their
struct device * in read-only-memory.

46c6685e7e firmware: coreboot: store owner from modules with coreboot_driver_register()
Modules registering driver with coreboot_driver_register() might
forget to set .owner field.  The field is used by some of other kernel
parts for reference counting (try_module_get()), so it is expected that
drivers will set it.

Solve the problem by moving this task away from the drivers to the core
code, just like we did for platform_driver in
commit 9447057eaf ("platform_device: use a macro instead of
platform_driver_register").

Moving the .owner setting code to the core this effectively fixes
missing .owner in framebuffer-coreboot, memconsole-coreboot and vpd
drivers.

8a0a62941a firmware: coreboot: Replace tag with id table in driver struct
Switch the plain 'tag' field in struct coreboot_driver for the newly
created coreboot_device_id struct, which also contains a tag field and
has the benefit of allowing modalias generation, and update all coreboot
drivers accordingly.

While at it, also add the id table for each driver to the module device
table to allow automatically loading the module.

09aeaabebd firmware: coreboot: Convert to platform remove callback returning void
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart
from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks.

To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return
void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to
.remove_new(), which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers
are converted, .remove_new() will be renamed to .remove().

Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove
callback to the void returning variant.

ecea089164 firmware: coreboot: framebuffer: Avoid invalid zero physical address
On ARM64 systems coreboot defers framebuffer allocation to its payload,
to be done by a libpayload function call. In this case, coreboot tables
still include a framebuffer entry with display format details, but the
physical address field is set to zero (as in [1], for example).

Unfortunately, this field is not automatically updated when the
framebuffer is initialized through libpayload, citing that doing so
would invalidate checksums over the entire coreboot table [2].

This can be observed on ARM64 Chromebooks with stock firmware. On a
Google Kevin (RK3399), trying to use coreboot framebuffer driver as
built-in to the kernel results in a benign error. But on Google Hana
(MT8173) and Google Cozmo (MT8183) it causes a hang.

When the framebuffer physical address field in the coreboot table is
zero, we have no idea where coreboot initialized a framebuffer, or even
if it did. Instead of trying to set up a framebuffer located at zero,
return ENODEV to indicate that there isn't one.

dff054e691 firmware: coreboot: framebuffer: Allow building with simpledrm
The coreboot framebuffer driver registers a "simple-framebuffer" device
based on the information from the firmware, after checking that it's
compatible with the formats listed in simplefb.h. It was added before
simpledrm, and its Kconfig marked as dependent on the simplefb driver.

The simpledrm driver can also handle "simple-framebuffer" devices and
the coreboot framebuffer works fine with it on a 'Lick' Chromebook.
Allow building the coreboot framebuffer driver with simpledrm as well.

text and thus aren't user choosable. They also aren't "select"ed by
anything. They also control the compilation of no code.

Let's remove them.

e6acaf25cb firmware: coreboot: framebuffer: Ignore reserved pixel color bits
The coreboot framebuffer doesn't support transparency, its 'reserved'
bit field is merely padding for byte/word alignment of pixel colors [1].
When trying to match the framebuffer to a simplefb format, the kernel
driver unnecessarily requires the format's transparency bit field to
exactly match this padding, even if the former is zero-width.

Due to a coreboot bug [2] (fixed upstream), some boards misreport the
reserved field's size as equal to its position (0x18 for both on a
'Lick' Chromebook), and the driver fails to probe where it would have
otherwise worked fine with e.g. the a8r8g8b8 or x8r8g8b8 formats.

Remove the transparency comparison with reserved bits. When the
bits-per-pixel and other color components match, transparency will
already be in a subset of the reserved field. Not forcing it to match
reserved bits allows the driver to work on the boards which misreport
the reserved field. It also enables using simplefb formats that don't
have transparency bits, although this doesn't currently happen due to
format support and ordering in linux/platform_data/simplefb.h.

ade7fd908d efi: efivars: drop kobject from efivars_register()
Since commit 0f5b2c69a4 ("efi: vars: Remove deprecated 'efivars' sysfs
interface") and the removal of the sysfs interface there are no users of
the efivars kobject.

Drop the kobject argument from efivars_register() and add a new
efivar_is_available() helper in favour of the old efivars_kobject().

Note that the new helper uses the prefix 'efivar' (i.e. without an 's')
for consistency with efivar_supports_writes() and the rest of the
interface (except the registration functions).

For the benefit of drivers with optional EFI support, also provide a
dummy implementation of efivar_is_available().

3b293487b8 firmware: coreboot: Check size of table entry and use flex-array
The memcpy() of the data following a coreboot_table_entry couldn't
be evaluated by the compiler under CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE. To make it
easier to reason about, add an explicit flexible array member to struct
coreboot_device so the entire entry can be copied at once. Additionally,
validate the sizes before copying. Avoids this run-time false positive
warning:

  memcpy: detected field-spanning write (size 168) of single field "&device->entry" at drivers/firmware/google/coreboot_table.c:103 (size 8)

19d5402088 firmware: google: Implement cbmem in sysfs driver
The CBMEM area is a downward-growing memory region used by coreboot to
dynamically allocate tagged data structures ("CBMEM entries") that
remain resident during boot.

This implements a driver which exports access to the CBMEM entries
via sysfs under /sys/bus/coreboot/devices/cbmem-<id>.

This implementation is quite versatile.  Examples of how it could be
used are given below:

* Tools like util/cbmem from the coreboot tree could use this driver
  instead of finding CBMEM in /dev/mem directly.  Alternatively,
  firmware developers debugging an issue may find the sysfs interface
  more ergonomic than the cbmem tool and choose to use it directly.

* The crossystem tool, which exposes verified boot variables, can use
  this driver to read the vboot work buffer.

* Tools which read the BIOS SPI flash (e.g., flashrom) can find the
  flash layout in CBMEM directly, which is significantly faster than
  searching the flash directly.

Write access is provided to all CBMEM regions via
/sys/bus/coreboot/devices/cbmem-<id>/mem, as the existing cbmem
tooling updates this memory region, and envisioned use cases with
crossystem can benefit from updating memory regions.

The coreboot_table driver registers a coreboot bus while probing a
"coreboot_table" device representing the coreboot table memory region.
Probing this device (i.e., registering the bus) is a dependency for the
module_init() functions of any driver for this bus (e.g.,
memconsole-coreboot.c / memconsole_driver_init()).

With synchronous probe, this dependency works OK, as the link order in
the Makefile ensures coreboot_table_driver_init() (and thus,
coreboot_table_probe()) completes before a coreboot device driver tries
to add itself to the bus.

With asynchronous probe, however, coreboot_table_probe() may race with
memconsole_driver_init(), and so we're liable to hit one of these two:

1. coreboot_driver_register() eventually hits "[...] the bus was not
   initialized.", and the memconsole driver fails to register; or
2. coreboot_driver_register() gets past #1, but still races with
   bus_register() and hits some other undefined/crashing behavior (e.g.,
   in driver_find() [1])

We can resolve this by registering the bus in our initcall, and only
deferring "device" work (scanning the coreboot memory region and
creating sub-devices) to probe().

3e081438b8 firmware: google: Test spinlock on panic path to avoid lockups
Currently the gsmi driver registers a panic notifier as well as
reboot and die notifiers. The callbacks registered are called in
atomic and very limited context - for instance, panic disables
preemption and local IRQs, also all secondary CPUs (not executing
the panic path) are shutdown.

With that said, taking a spinlock in this scenario is a dangerous
invitation for lockup scenarios. So, fix that by checking if the
spinlock is free to acquire in the panic notifier callback - if not,
bail-out and avoid a potential hang.

d185a3466f firmware: Update Kconfig help text for Google firmware
The help text for GOOGLE_FIRMWARE states that it should only be
enabled when building a kernel for Google's own servers.  However,
many of the drivers dependent on it are also useful on Chromebooks or
on any platform using coreboot.

Update the help text to reflect this double duty.

fc7a6209d5 bus: Make remove callback return void
The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there
is only little it can do when a device disappears.

This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several
buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback.
Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers
returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go
away.

With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly
implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate
wrong expectations for driver authors.
