ed8d84530a Merge tag 'i2c-for-6.8-rc1-rebased' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/wsa/linux
Pull i2c updates from Wolfram Sang:
"This removes the currently unused CLASS_DDC support (controllers set
the flag, but there is no client to use it).

Also, CLASS_SPD support gets simplified to prepare removal in the
future. Class based instantiation is not recommended these days
  anyhow.

Furthermore, I2C core now creates a debugfs directory per I2C adapter.
Current bus driver users were converted to use it.

Finally, quite some driver updates. Standing out are patches for the
wmt-driver which is refactored to support more variants.

This is the rebased pull request where a large series for the
  designware driver was dropped"

754bd2fffc fbdev: remove I2C_CLASS_DDC support
After removal of the legacy EEPROM driver and I2C_CLASS_DDC support in
olpc_dcon there's no i2c client driver left supporting I2C_CLASS_DDC.
Class-based device auto-detection is a legacy mechanism and shouldn't
be used in new code. So we can remove this class completely now.

33cd6ea9c0 fbdev: flush deferred IO before closing
When framebuffer gets closed, the queued deferred IO gets cancelled. This
can cause some last display data to vanish. This is problematic for users
who send a still image to the framebuffer, then close the file: the image
may never appear.

To ensure none of display data get lost, flush the queued deferred IO
first before closing.

Another possible solution is to delete the cancel_delayed_work_sync()
instead. The difference is that the display may appear some time after
closing. However, the clearing of page mapping after this needs to be
removed too, because the page mapping is used by the deferred work. It is
not completely obvious whether it is okay to not clear the page mapping.
For a patch intended for stable trees, go with the simple and obvious
solution.

15e4c1f462 fbdev: flush deferred work in fb_deferred_io_fsync()
The driver's fsync() is supposed to flush any pending operation to
hardware. It is implemented in this driver by cancelling the queued
deferred IO first, then schedule it for "immediate execution" by calling
schedule_delayed_work() again with delay=0. However, setting delay=0
only means the work is scheduled immediately, it does not mean the work
is executed immediately. There is no guarantee that the work is finished
after schedule_delayed_work() returns. After this driver's fsync()
returns, there can still be pending work. Furthermore, if close() is
called by users immediately after fsync(), the pending work gets
cancelled and fsync() may do nothing.

To ensure that the deferred IO completes, use flush_delayed_work()
instead. Write operations to this driver either write to the device
directly, or invoke schedule_delayed_work(); so by flushing the
workqueue, it can be guaranteed that all previous writes make it to the
device.

8813e86f6d fbdev: Remove default file-I/O implementations
Drop the default implementations for file read, write and mmap
operations. Each fbdev driver must now provide an implementation
and select any necessary helpers. If no implementation has been
set, fbdev returns an errno code to user space. The code is the
same as if the operation had not been set in the file_operations
struct.

This change makes the fbdev helpers for I/O memory optional. Most
systems only use system-memory framebuffers via DRM's fbdev emulation.

Test in framebuffer read, write and drawing helpers if FBINFO_VIRTFB

33253d9e01 fbdev: Move default fb_mmap code into helper function
Move the default fb_mmap code for I/O address spaces into the helper
function fb_io_mmap(). The helper can either be called via struct
fb_ops.fb_mmap or as the default if no fb_mmap has been set. Also
set the new helper in __FB_DEFAULT_IOMEM_OPS_MMAP.

In the mid-term, fb_io_mmap() is supposed to become optional. Fbdev
drivers will initialize their struct fb_ops.fb_mmap to the helper
and select a corresponding Kconfig token. The helper can then be made
optional at compile time.

76f92201b8 fbdev: Push pgprot_decrypted() into mmap implementations
If a driver sets struct fb_ops.fb_mmap, the fbdev core automatically
calls pgprot_decrypted(). But the default fb_mmap code doesn't handle
pgprot_decrypted().

Move the call to pgprot_decrypted() into each drivers' fb_mmap function.
This only concerns fb_mmap functions for system and DMA memory. For
I/O memory, which is the default case, nothing changes. The fb_mmap
for I/O-memory can later be moved into a helper as well.

DRM's fbdev emulation handles pgprot_decrypted() internally via the
Prime helpers. Fbdev doesn't have to do anything in this case. In
cases where DRM uses deferred I/O, this patch updates fb_mmap correctly.

bb6c4507fe drm: fix up fbdev Kconfig defaults
As a result of the recent Kconfig reworks, the default settings for the
framebuffer interfaces changed in unexpected ways:

Configurations that leave CONFIG_FB disabled but use DRM now get
DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION by default. This also turns on the deprecated /dev/fb
device nodes for machines that don't actually want it.

In turn, configurations that previously had DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION enabled
now only get the /dev/fb front-end but not the more useful framebuffer
console, which is not selected any more.

We had previously decided that any combination of the three frontends
(FB_DEVICE, FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE and LOGO) should be selectable, but the
new default settings mean that a lot of defconfig files would have to
get adapted.

Change the defaults back to what they were in Linux 6.5:

 - Leave DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION turned off unless CONFIG_FB
is enabled. Previously this was a hard dependency but now the two are
independent. However, configurations that enable CONFIG_FB probably
also want to keep the emulation for DRM, while those without FB
presumably did that intentionally in the past.

 - Leave FB_DEVICE turned off for FB=n. Following the same
logic, the deprecated option should not automatically get enabled
here, most users that had FB turned off in the past do not want it,
even if they want the console

 - Turn the FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE option on if
DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION is set to avoid having to change defconfig
files that relied on it being selected unconditionally in the past.
This also makes sense since both LOGO and FB_DEVICE are now disabled
by default for builds without CONFIG_FB, but DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION
would make no sense if all three are disabled.

Add initializer macros for struct fb_ops for framebuffers in DMA-able

55bffc8170 fbdev: Split frame buffer support in FB and FB_CORE symbols
Currently the CONFIG_FB option has to be enabled even if no legacy fbdev
drivers are needed (e.g: only to have support for framebuffer consoles).

The DRM subsystem has a fbdev emulation layer, but depends on CONFIG_FB
and so it can only be enabled if that dependency is enabled as well.

That means fbdev drivers have to be explicitly disabled if users want to
enable CONFIG_FB, only to use fbcon and/or the DRM fbdev emulation layer.

This patch introduces a non-visible CONFIG_FB_CORE symbol that could be
enabled just to have core support needed for CONFIG_DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION,
allowing CONFIG_FB to be disabled (and automatically disabling all the
fbdev drivers).

Nothing from fb_backlight.o and fbmon.o is used by the DRM fbdev emulation
layer so these two objects can be compiled out when CONFIG_FB is disabled.

701d2054fa fbdev: Make support for userspace interfaces configurable
Add Kconfig option CONFIG_FB_DEVICE and make the virtual fbdev
device optional. If the new option has not been selected, fbdev
does not create files in devfs, sysfs or procfs.

Most modern Linux systems run a DRM-based graphics stack that uses
the kernel's framebuffer console, but has otherwise deprecated fbdev
support. Yet fbdev userspace interfaces are still present.

The option makes it possible to use the fbdev subsystem as console
implementation without support for userspace. This closes potential
entry points to manipulate kernel or I/O memory via framebuffers. It
also prevents the execution of driver code via ioctl or sysfs, both
of which might allow malicious software to exploit bugs in the fbdev
code.

A small number of fbdev drivers require struct fbinfo.dev to be
initialized, usually for the support of sysfs interface. Make these
drivers depend on FB_DEVICE. They can later be fixed if necessary.

v3:
	* effect -> affect in Kconfig help (Daniel)
v2:
	* set FB_DEVICE default to y (Geert)
	* comment on {get,put}_device() (Sam)
	* Kconfig fixes (Sam)
	* add TODO item about FB_DEVICE dependencies (Sam)

ff8fbcf605 fbdev/core: Rework fb init code
Init the class "graphics" before the rest of fbdev. Later steps, such
as the sysfs code, depend on the class. Also arrange the module's exit
code in reverse order.

Unexport the global variable fb_class, which is only shared internally
within the fbdev core module.

abcc2f3c4c fbdev/core: Move procfs code to separate file
Move fbdev's procfs code into a separate file and contain it in
init and cleanup helpers. For the cleanup, replace remove_proc_entry()
with proc_remove(). It is equivalent in functionality, but looks
more like an inverse of proc_create_seq().

e2af003210 fbdev/core: Add fb_device_{create,destroy}()
Move the logic to create and destroy fbdev devices into the new
helpers fb_device_create() and fb_device_destroy().

There was a call to fb_cleanup_device() in do_unregister_framebuffer()
that was too late. The device had already been removed at this point.
Move the call into fb_device_destroy().

Declare the helpers in the new internal header file fb_internal.h, as
they are only used within the fbdev core module.

403f0dda63 fbdev/core: Pass Linux device to pm_vt_switch_*() functions
Pass the Linux device to pm_vt_switch_*() instead of the virtual
fbdev device. Prepares fbdev for making struct fb_info.dev optional.

The type of device that is passed to the PM functions does not matter
much. It is only a token within the internal list of known devices.
The PM functions do not refer to any of the device's properties or its
type.
