samples/damon/mtier: error out for zero quota goal target values
Patch series "mm/damon: avoid division by zero from damos_quota_score()".
DAMON_SAMPLE_MTIER and DAMON_LRU_SORT allow the user to trigger division
by zero in damos_quota_score(). Avoid it by adding parameters validation
checks.
This patch (of 2):
damos_quota_score() can trigger division by zero if the target_value is
zero. DAMON_SAMPLE_MTIER lets users set the target_value via
node0_mem_{used,free}_bp parameters. It doesn't guard zero value case,
though. As a result, users can trigger division by zero. Fix the issue
by returning an error when the user tries to start DAMON with zero
node0_mem_{used,free}_bp parameter values.
DAMON_SAMPLE_MTIER is just a sample module, but the consequence is quite
bad. Also the zero node0_mem_free_bp parameter might look like a
reasonable setup to some users. Hence, the issue might really happen in
the real world.
One reliable way to reproduce the issue is like below:
# cd /sys/module/damon_sample_mtier/parameters
# echo 4096 > node0_start_addr
# echo 8192 > node0_end_addr
# echo 8192 > node1_start_addr
# echo 81920 > node1_end_addr
# echo 0 > node0_mem_free_bp
# echo Y > enabled
# dmesg -w

samples/damon/mtier: stop all contexts with single damon_stop() call
damon_stop() was theoretically able to return failure while keeping the second context for mtier running. mtier stops its contexts one by one with two damon_stop() call for the reason. damon_stop() is refactored to always successfully stop all requested DAMON contexts. The two calls are unnecessary. Use only single damon_stop() call for all contexts. samples/damon/prcl: stop and free damon ctx when damon_call() fails
damon_sample_prcl_start() calls damon_call() right after damon_start() is
succeeded. The kdamond that has started by the damon_start() could be
terminated by itself before or in the middle of the damon_call()
execution. There could be multiple reasons for such a stop including
monitoring target process termination and kdamond_fn() internal memory
allocation failures. In the case, damon_call() will fail and return an
error without cleaning up the DAMON context object. The
damon_sample_prcl_start() caller assumes it would clean up the object,
though. When the user requests to start DAMON again,
damon_sample_prcl_start() is called again, allocates a new DAMON context
object and overwrites the pointer for the previous object. As a result,
the previous context object is leaked.
Safely stop the kdamond and deallocate the context object when the failure
is returned. Note that the kdamond should be stopped first, because
damon_call() failure means not complete termination of the kdamond but
only the fact that the termination process has started.
The user impact shouldn't be that significant because the race is not easy
to happen, and only up to one DAMON context object can be leaked per race.

samples/damon/mtier: handle damon_stop() failure
damon_sample_mtier_stop() assumes its damon_stop() call will always
successfully stops the two DAMON contexts. Hence it deallocates the two
DAMON contexts after the damon_stop() call. However, if a given context
is already stopped, damon_stop() fails and returns an error while letting
the DAMON contexts that have not yet stopped keep running. This kind of
unexpected early DAMON context stops could happen due to memory allocation
failures in kdamond_fn(). Because damon_sample_mtier_stop() just
deallocates all DAMON contexts with damon_target and damon_region objects
that are linked to the contexts, the execution of the unstopped DAMON
context (kdamond) ends up using the memory that freed (use-after-free).
Fix the issue by separating the damon_stop() to be invoked per context.
Note that DAMON_SYSFS also allows multiple DAMON contexts execution. But,
it calls damon_stop() for each context one by one. Hence this issue is
only in mtier.
For the long term, it would be better to refactor damon_stop() to always
ensure stopping all contexts regardless of the failures in the middle.
Make this fix in the current way, though, to keep it simple and easy to
backport. I will do the refactoring later.

samples/damon/mtier: handle damon_start() failure
damon_sample_mtier_start() callers assume it will clean up resources when
it fails. And the function does the cleanup for context buildup failures.
However, it is not doing the cleanup for damon_start() failure.
As a result, when damon_start() fails, it could leak the memory for DAMON
context. Also, if damon_start() fails for only the second context, the
first context will indefinitely run, and avoid starting other DAMON
contexts since it is running in the exclusive mode. Stop possibly started
DAMON context and free the contexts in case of the failure to fix the
issues.
Note that the issue can reliably be reproduced because the module calls
damon_start() in the exclusive mode. For example,
$ sudo damo start
$ echo Y | sudo tee /sys/module/damon_sample_mtier/parameters/enabled
$ sudo cat /proc/allocinfo | grep damon_new_ctx
Because the first command is running another DAMON instance, the second
command fails the damon_start() call because the new DAMON instance cannot
exclusively run. And without this fix, by repeating the second and the
third commands above, we can show the memory consumption is only
increasing due to the leaks. It requires the sudo permission though.

samples/damon/wsse: handle damon_start() failure
Patch series "samples/damon: handle damon_{start,stop}() failures".
All DAMON sample modules are not correctly handling failures from
damon_start(). Among those, mtier also has an additional problem for
handling of damon_stop() failures. wsse and prcl also have a problem in
their damon_call() failure handling. As a result, memory leaks, next
DAMON operation disruptions, and use-after-free can happen. Fix those.
Note that only the damon_start() failure caused issues can reliably be
reproduced. Reproducing those issues require the admin permission,
though.
This patch (of 6):
damon_sample_wsse_start() callers assume it will clean up resources when

However, it is not doing the cleanup for damon_start() failure. As a

Merge tag 'trace-v7.2-rc2' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/trace/linux-trace
Pull tracing fixes from Steven Rostedt: - Free field in error path of synthetic event parse In __create_synth_event() the field was allocated but was not freed in the error path - Fix ring_buffer_event_length() on 8 byte aligned architectures On architectures with CONFIG_HAVE_64BIT_ALIGNED_ACCESS set to y, the ring_buffer_event_length() may return the wrong size. This is because archs with that config set will always use the "big event meta header" as that is 8 bytes keeping the payload 8 bytes aligned, even when a 4 byte header could hold the size of the event But ring_buffer_event_length() doesn't take this into account and only subtracts 4 bytes for the meta header in the length when it should have subtracted 8 bytes - Have osnoise wait for a full rcu synchronization on unregister osnoise_unregister_instance() used to call synchronize_rcu() before freeing its copy of the instance but was switched to kfree_rcu(). The osniose tracer has code that traverses the instances that it uses, and inst is just a pointer to that instance. By using kfree_rcu() instead of synchronize_rcu(), the instance that the inst pointer is pointing to can be freed while the osnoise code is still referencing it That is, a rmdir on an instance first unregisters the tracer. When the unregister finishes, the rmdir expects that the tracer is finished with the instance that it is using. By putting back the synchronize_rcu() in osnoise_unregister_instance() the unregistering of osnoise will now return when all the users of the instance have finished - Remove an unused setting of "ret" in tracing_set_tracer() - Fix ring_buffer_read_page() copying events The commit that changed ring_buffer_read_page() to show dropped events from the buffer itself, split the "commit" variable between the commit value (with flags) and "size" that holds the size of the sub-buffer. A cut and paste error changed the test of the reading from checking the size of the buffer to the size of the event causing reads to only read one event at a time - Make tracepoint_printk a static variable When the tracing sysctl knobs were move from sysctl.c to trace.c, the variable tracepoint_printk no longer needed to be global. Make it static - Fix some typos - Fix NULL pointer dereference in func_set_flag() The flags update of the function tracer first checks if the value of the flag is the same and exits if they are, and then it checks if the current tracer is the function tracer and exits if it isn't. The problem is that these checks need to be in a reversed order, as if the tracer isn't the function tracer, then the flag being checked may not exist. Reverse the order of these checks - Fix ufs core trace events to not dereference a pointer in TP_printk() The TP_printk() part of the TRACE_EVENT() macro is called when the user reads the "trace" file. This can be seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, and even months after the data was recorded into the ring buffer. Thus, saving a pointer to an object into the ring buffer and then dereferencing it from TP_printk() can cause harm as the object the pointer is pointing to may no longer exist Fix all the trace events in ufs core to save the device name in the ring buffer instead of dereferencing the device descriptor from TP_printk() - Prevent out-of-bound reads in glob matching of trace events The filter logic of events allows simple glob logic to add wild cards to filter on strings. But some events have fields that may not have a terminating 'nul' character. This may cause the glob matching to go beyond the string. Change the logic to always pass in the length of the field that is being matched - Add no-rcu-check version of trace_##event##_enabled() The trace_##event##_enabled() usually wraps trace events to do extra work that is only needed when the trace event is enabled. But this can hide events that are placed in locations where RCU is not watching, and can make lockdep not see these bugs when the event is not enabled The trace_##event##_enabled() was updated to always test to make sure RCU is watching to catch locations that may call events without RCU being active This caused a false positive for the irq_disabled() and related events. As that use trace_irq_disabled_enabled() to force RCU to be watching when the event is enabled via the ct_irq_enter() function, calls the event, and then calls ct_irq_exit() to put RCU back to its original state The trace_irq_disabled_enabled() should not trigger a warning when RCU is not watching because the code within its block handles the case properly. Make a __trace_##event##_enabled() version for this event to use that doesn't check RCU is watching as it handles the case when it isn't - Fix use-after-free in user_event_mm_dup() When the enabler is removed from the link list, it is freed immediately. But it is protected via RCU and needs to be freed after an RCU grace period. Use queue_rcu_work() so that the event_mutex can also be taken as user_event_put() takes the mutex on the last reference is released - Free type string in error path of parse_synth_field() There's an error path in parse_synth_field() where the allocated type string is not freed - Add selftest that tests deferred event teardown - Fix leak in error path of trace_remote_alloc_buffer() If page allocation fails, the desc->nr_cpus is not incremented for the current CPU and the allocations done for it are not freed - Fix allocation length in trace_remote_alloc_buffer() The logic to calculate the struct_len was doing a double count and setting the value too large. Calculate the size upfront to fix the error and simplify the logic - Fix sparse CPU masks in ring_buffer_desc() If there are sparse CPUs (gaps in the numbering), the ring_buffer_desc() will fail as it tests the CPU number against the number of CPUs that are used * tag 'trace-v7.2-rc2' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/trace/linux-trace: ring-buffer: Allow sparse CPU masks in ring_buffer_desc() tracing/remotes: Fix struct_len in trace_remote_alloc_buffer() tracing/remotes: Fix leak in trace_remote_alloc_buffer() error path selftests/user_events: Wait for deferred event teardown after unregister tracing/synthetic: Free type string on error path tracing/user_events: Fix use-after-free in user_event_mm_dup() tracing: Add a no-rcu-check version of trace_##event##_enabled() tracing: Prevent out-of-bounds read in glob matching ufs: core: tracing: Do not dereference pointers in TP_printk() tracing: Fix NULL pointer dereference in func_set_flag() samples: ftrace: Fix typos in benchmark comment tracing: Make tracepoint_printk static as not exported ring-buffer: Fix ring_buffer_read_page() copying only one event per page tracing: Remove unused ret assignment in tracing_set_tracer() tracing/osnoise: Call synchronize_rcu() when unregistering ring-buffer: Fix event length with forced 8-byte alignment tracing/synthetic: Free pending field on error path |

Merge tag 'mm-stable-2026-06-18-09-26' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm
Pull MM updates from Andrew Morton:
- "selftests/mm: clean up build output and verbosity" (Li Wang)
Remove some noise from the MM selftests build
- "mm: Free contiguous order-0 pages efficiently" (Ryan Roberts)
Speed up the freeing of a batch of 0-order pages by first scanning
them for coalescing opportunities. This is applicable to vfree() and
to the releasing of frozen pages
- "mm/damon: introduce DAMOS failed region quota charge ratio"
(SeongJae Park)
Address a DAMOS usability issue: The DAMOS quota often exhausts
prematurely because it charges for all memory attempted, causing slow
and inconsistent performance when actions fail on unreclaimable
memory.
To fix this, a new feature lets users set a smaller, flexible quota
charge ratio (via a numerator and denominator) for failed regions.
Since failed actions cause less overhead, reducing their quota cost
ensures more predictable and efficient DAMOS processing
- "selftests/cgroup: improve zswap tests robustness and support large
page sizes" (Li Wang)
Fix various spurious failures and improves the overall robustness of
the cgroup zswap selftests
- "fix MAP_DROPPABLE not supported errno" (Anthony Yznaga)
Fix an issue in the mlock selftests on arm32
- "mm: huge_memory: clean up defrag sysfs with shared" (Breno Leitao)
Some maintenance work in the huge_memory code
- "treewide: fixup gfp_t printks" (Brendan Jackman)
Use the special vprintf() gfp_t conversion in various places
- "mm: Fix vmemmap optimization accounting and initialization" (Muchun
Song)
Fix several bugs in the vmemmap optimization, mainly around incorrect
page accounting and memmap initialization in the DAX and memory
hotplug paths. It also fixes pageblock migratetype initialization and
struct page initialization for ZONE_DEVICE compound pages
- "mm/damon: repost non-hotfix reviewed patches in damon/next tree"
A sprinkle of unrelated minor bugfixes for DAMON
- "mm: remove page_mapped()" (David Hildenbrand)
Remove this function from the tree, replacing it with folio_mapped()
- "mm/damon: let DAMON be paused and resumed" (SeongJae Park)
Allow DAMON to be paused and resumed without losing its current state
- "kasan: hw_tags: Disable tagging for stack and page-tables" (Muhammad
Usama Anjum)
Simplify and speed up kasan by removing its ineffective tagging of
stacks and page tables
- "mm/damon/reclaim,lru_sort: monitor all system rams by default"
(SeongJae Park)
Simplify deployment on diverse hardware like NUMA systems by updating
DAMON_RECLAIM and DAMON_LRU_SORT to automatically monitor the
physical address range covering all System RAM areas by default,
replacing the overly restrictive behavior that only targeted the
single largest memory block to save on negligible overhead
- "mm/damon/sysfs: document filters/ directory as deprecated" (SeongJae
Park)
Update some DAMON docs
- "mm: use spinlock guards for zone lock" (Dmitry Ilvokhin)
Switch zone->lock handling over to using the guard() mechanisms
- "mm/filemap: tighten mmap_miss hit accounting" (fujunjie)
Fix a flaw where the mmap_miss counter over-credited page cache hits
during fault-arounds and page-fault retries. This results in
significant reduction of redundant synchronous mmap readahead I/O,
drastically cutting down execution time and gigabytes read for sparse
random or strided memory access workloads
- "selftests/cgroup: Fix false positive failures in test_percpu_basic"
(Li Wang)
Fix a couple of false-positives in the cgroup kmem selftests
- "mm/damon/reclaim: support monitoring intervals auto-tuning"
(SeongJae Park)
Add a new parameter to DAMON permitting DAMON_RECLAIM to
automatically tune DAMON's sampling and aggregation intervals
- "mm/damon/stat: add kdamond_pid parameter" (SeongJae Park)
Change DAMON_STAT to provide the pid of its kdamond
- "mm/kmemleak: dedupe verbose scan output" (Breno Leitao)
Remove large amounts of duplicated backtraces from the verbose-mode
kmemleak output
- "mm: remove CONFIG_HAVE_BOOTMEM_INFO_NODE (Part 1)" (David
Hildenbrand)
Reduce our use of CONFIG_HAVE_BOOTMEM_INFO_NODE, with a view to
removing it entirely in a later series
- "mm/damon: validate min_region_size to be power of 2" (Liew Rui Yan)
Prevent users from passing a non-power-of-2 value of `addr_unit', as
this later results in undesirable behavior
- "mm: document read_pages and simplify usage" (Frederick Mayle)
- "tools/mm/page-types: Fix misc bugs" (Ye Liu)
Fix three issues in tools/mm/page-types.c
- "mm: misc cleanups from __GFP_UNMAPPED series" (Brendan Jackman)
Implement several cleanups in the page allocator and related code
- "mm, swap: swap table phase IV: unify allocation" (Kairui Song)
Unify the allocation and charging of anon and shmem swap in folios,
provides better synchronization, consolidates the metadata
management, hence dropping the static array and map, and improves
performance
- "mm/damon: introduce data attributes monitoring" (SeongJae Park(
Extend DAMON to monitor general data attributes other than accesses
- "mm/vmalloc: free unused pages on vrealloc() shrink" (Shivam Kalra)
Implement the TODO in vrealloc() to unmap and free unused pages when
shrinking across a page boundary
- "mm/damon: documentation and comment fixes" (niecheng)
- "remove mmap_action success, error hooks" (Lorenzo Stoakes)
Eliminate custom hooks from mmap_action by removing the problematic
success_hook which allowed drivers to improperly access uninitialized
VMAs. It replaces the error_hook with a simple error-code field and
updates the memory char driver accordingly
- "mm/damon: minor improvements for code readability and tests"
(SeongJae Park)
- "mm/damon: fix macro arguments and clarify quota goals doc" (Maksym
Shcherba)
- "userfaultfd: merge fs/userfaultfd.c into mm/userfaultfd.c" (Mike
Rapoport)
- "mm/mglru: improve reclaim loop and dirty folio" (Kairui Song and
others)
Clean up and slightly improves MGLRU's reclaim loop and dirty
writeback handling. Large performance improvements are measured
- "use vma locks for proc/pid/{smaps|numa_maps} reads" (Suren
Baghdasaryan)
Use per-vma locks when reading /proc/pid/smaps and numa_maps similar
to reduce contention on central mmap_lock

- "memcg: shrink obj_stock_pcp and cache multiple objcgs" (Shakeel
Butt)
Resolve a 68% performance regression caused by NUMA-node cache
thrashing around struct obj_stock_pcp by shrinking its existing
fields and expanding it into a multi-slot array that caches up to
five obj_cgroup pointers per CPU, allowing per-node variants of the
same memcg to coexist within a single 64-byte cache line.

force_thp_readahead gate to support mappings with any usefully large
maximum folio order under the cache cap.
- "userfaultfd/pagemap: pre-existing fixes" (Kiryl Shutsemau)
Fix a bunch of minor issues in the userfaultfd/pagemap, all of which
were flagged by Sashiko review of proposed new material

Merge tag 'driver-core-7.2-rc1' of gitolite.kernel.org:pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/driver-core/driver-core
Pull driver core updates from Danilo Krummrich:
"Deferred probe:
- Fix race where deferred probe timeout work could be permanently
canceled by using mod_delayed_work()
- Fix missing jiffies conversion in deferred_probe_extend_timeout()
- Guard timeout extension with delayed_work_pending() to prevent
premature firing
- Use system_percpu_wq instead of the deprecated system_wq
- Update deferred_probe_timeout documentation
device:
- Replace direct struct device bitfield access (can_match, dma_iommu,
dma_skip_sync, dma_ops_bypass, state_synced, dma_coherent,
of_node_reused, offline, offline_disabled) with flag-based
accessors using bit operations
- Reject devices with unregistered buses
- Delete unused DEVICE_ATTR_PREALLOC()
- Add low-level device attribute macros with const show/store
callbacks, allowing device attributes to reside in read-only memory
- Move core device attributes to read-only memory
- Constify group array pointers in driver_add_groups() /
driver_remove_groups(), struct bus_type, and struct device_driver
device property:
- Fix fwnode reference leak in fwnode_graph_get_endpoint_by_id()
- Initialize all fields of fwnode_handle in fwnode_init()
- Provide swnode_get()/swnode_put() wrappers around kobject_get/put()
- Allow passing struct software_node_ref_args pointers directly to
PROPERTY_ENTRY_REF()
driver_override:
- Migrate amba, cdx, vmbus, and rpmsg to the generic driver_override
infrastructure, fixing a UAF from unsynchronized access to
driver_override in bus match() callbacks
- Remove the now-unused driver_set_override()
firmware loader:
- Fix recursive lock deadlock in device_cache_fw_images() when async
work falls back to synchronous execution
- Fix device reference leak in firmware_upload_register()
platform:
- Pass KBUILD_MODNAME through the platform driver registration macro
to create module symlinks in sysfs for built-in drivers; move
module_kset initialization to a pure_initcall and tegra cbb
registration to core_initcall to ensure correct ordering
- Pass THIS_MODULE implicitly through a coresight_init_driver() macro
sysfs:
- Upgrade OOB write detection in sysfs_kf_seq_show() from printk to
WARN
- Add return value clamping to sysfs_kf_read()
Rust:
- ACPI:
Fix missing match data for PRP0001 by exporting
acpi_of_match_device()
- Auxiliary:
Replace drvdata() with dedicated registration data on
auxiliary_device. drvdata() exposed the driver's bus device private
data beyond the driver's own scope, creating ordering constraints
and forcing the data to outlive all registrations that access it.
Registration data is instead scoped structurally to the
Registration object, making lifecycle ordering enforced by
construction rather than convention.
- Rust-native device driver lifetimes (HRT):
Allow Rust device drivers to carry a lifetime parameter on their
bus device private data, tied to the device binding scope -- the
interval during which a bus device is bound to a driver. Device
resources like pci::Bar<'a> and IoMem<'a> can be stored directly in
the driver's bus device private data with a lifetime bounded by the
binding scope, so the compiler enforces at build time that they do
not outlive the binding. This removes Devres indirection from every
access site and eliminates try_access() failure paths in
destructors.
Bus driver traits use a Generic Associated Type (GAT) Data<'bound>
to introduce the lifetime on the private data, rather than
parameterizing the Driver trait itself. Auxiliary registration
data, where the lifetime is not introduced by a trait callback but
must be threaded through Registration, uses the ForLt trait (a
type-level abstraction for types generic over a lifetime).
Misc:
- Fix DT overlayed devices not probing by reverting the broken
treewide overlay fix and re-running fw_devlink consumer pickup when
an overlay is applied to a bound device
- Use root_device_register() for faux bus root device; add sanity
check for failed bus init
- Fix dev_has_sync_state() data race with READ_ONCE() and move it to
base.h
- Avoid spurious device_links warning when removing a device while
its supplier is unbinding
- Switch ISA bus to dynamic root device
- Fix suspicious RCU usage in kernfs_put()
- Remove devcoredump exit callback
- Constify devfreq_event_class"

samples/damon/mtier: replace damon_add_region() with damon_set_regions()
mtier DAMON sample module and DAMON virtual address operation set (vaddr) unit tests are using damon_add_region() for setup of DAMON monitoring target region boundaries setup. rust: pci: make Bar lifetime-parameterized
Convert pci::Bar<SIZE> to pci::Bar<'a, SIZE>, storing &'a Device<Bound> to tie the BAR mapping lifetime to the device. iomap_region_sized() now returns Result<Bar<'a, SIZE>> directly instead of impl PinInit<Devres<Bar<SIZE>>, Error>. Since the lifetime ties the mapping to the device's bound state, callers no longer need Devres for the common case where the Bar lives in the driver's private data. Add Bar::into_devres() to consume the bar and register it as a device-managed resource, returning Devres<Bar<'static, SIZE>>. The lifetime is erased to 'static because Devres guarantees the bar does not actually outlive the device -- access is revoked on unbind. rust: driver: decouple driver private data from driver type
Add a type Data<'bound> associated type to all bus driver traits, decoupling the driver's bus device private data type from the driver struct itself. In the context of adding a 'bound lifetime, making this an associated type has the advantage that it allows us to avoid a driver trait global lifetime and it avoids the need for ForLt for bus device private data; both of which make the subsequent implementation by buses much simpler. All existing drivers and doc examples set type Data = Self to preserve the current behavior. rust: auxiliary: add registration data to auxiliary devices
Add a registration_data pointer to struct auxiliary_device, allowing the registering (parent) driver to attach private data to the device at registration time and retrieve it later when called back by the auxiliary (child) driver. By tying the data to the device's registration, Rust drivers can bind the lifetime of device resources to it, since the auxiliary bus guarantees that the parent driver remains bound while the auxiliary device is bound. On the Rust side, Registration<T> takes ownership of the data via ForeignOwnable. A TypeId is stored alongside the data for runtime type checking, making Device::registration_data<T>() a safe method. Merge tag 'driver-core-7.1-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/driver-core/driver-core
Pull driver core updates from Danilo Krummrich:
"debugfs:
- Fix NULL pointer dereference in debugfs_create_str()
- Fix misplaced EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL for debugfs_create_str()
- Fix soundwire debugfs NULL pointer dereference from uninitialized
firmware_file
device property:
- Make fwnode flags modifications thread safe; widen the field to
unsigned long and use set_bit() / clear_bit() based accessors
- Document how to check for the property presence
devres:
- Separate struct devres_node from its "subclasses" (struct devres,
struct devres_group); give struct devres_node its own release and
free callbacks for per-type dispatch
- Introduce struct devres_action for devres actions, avoiding the
ARCH_DMA_MINALIGN alignment overhead of struct devres
- Export struct devres_node and its init/add/remove/dbginfo
primitives for use by Rust Devres<T>
- Fix missing node debug info in devm_krealloc()
- Use guard(spinlock_irqsave) where applicable; consolidate unlock
paths in devres_release_group()
driver_override:
- Convert PCI, WMI, vdpa, s390/cio, s390/ap, and fsl-mc to the
generic driver_override infrastructure, replacing per-bus
driver_override strings, sysfs attributes, and match logic; fixes a
potential UAF from unsynchronized access to driver_override in bus
match() callbacks
- Simplify __device_set_driver_override() logic
kernfs:
- Send IN_DELETE_SELF and IN_IGNORED inotify events on kernfs file
and directory removal
- Add corresponding selftests for memcg
platform:
- Allow attaching software nodes when creating platform devices via a
new 'swnode' field in struct platform_device_info
- Add kerneldoc for struct platform_device_info
software node:
- Move software node initialization from postcore_initcall() to
driver_init(), making it available early in the boot process
- Move kernel_kobj initialization (ksysfs_init) earlier to support
the above
- Remove software_node_exit(); dead code in a built-in unit
SoC:
- Introduce of_machine_read_compatible() and of_machine_read_model()
OF helpers and export soc_attr_read_machine() to replace direct
accesses to of_root from SoC drivers; also enables
CONFIG_COMPILE_TEST coverage for these drivers
sysfs:
- Constify attribute group array pointers to
'const struct attribute_group *const *' in sysfs functions,
device_add_groups() / device_remove_groups(), and struct class
Rust:
- Devres:
- Embed struct devres_node directly in Devres<T> instead of going
through devm_add_action(), avoiding the extra allocation and the
unnecessary ARCH_DMA_MINALIGN alignment
- I/O:
- Turn IoCapable from a marker trait into a functional trait
carrying the raw I/O accessor implementation (io_read /
io_write), providing working defaults for the per-type Io
methods
- Add RelaxedMmio wrapper type, making relaxed accessors usable in
code generic over the Io trait
- Remove overloaded per-type Io methods and per-backend macros
from Mmio and PCI ConfigSpace
- I/O (Register):
- Add IoLoc trait and generic read/write/update methods to the Io
trait, making I/O operations parameterizable by typed locations
- Add register! macro for defining hardware register types with
typed bitfield accessors backed by Bounded values; supports
direct, relative, and array register addressing
- Add write_reg() / try_write_reg() and LocatedRegister trait
- Update PCI sample driver to demonstrate the register! macro
Example:
```
register! {
/// UART control register.
CTRL(u32) @ 0x18 {
/// Receiver enable.
19:19 rx_enable => bool;
/// Parity configuration.
14:13 parity ?=> Parity;
}
/// FIFO watermark and counter register.
WATER(u32) @ 0x2c {
/// Number of datawords in the receive FIFO.
26:24 rx_count;
/// RX interrupt threshold.
17:16 rx_water;
}
}
impl WATER {
fn rx_above_watermark(&self) -> bool {
self.rx_count() > self.rx_water()
}
}
fn init(bar: &pci::Bar<BAR0_SIZE>) {
let water = WATER::zeroed()
.with_const_rx_water::<1>(); // > 3 would not compile
bar.write_reg(water);
let ctrl = CTRL::zeroed()
.with_parity(Parity::Even)
.with_rx_enable(true);
bar.write_reg(ctrl);
}
fn handle_rx(bar: &pci::Bar<BAR0_SIZE>) {
if bar.read(WATER).rx_above_watermark() {
// drain the FIFO
}
}
fn set_parity(bar: &pci::Bar<BAR0_SIZE>, parity: Parity) {
bar.update(CTRL, |r| r.with_parity(parity));
}
```
- IRQ:
- Move 'static bounds from where clauses to trait declarations for
IRQ handler traits
- Misc:
- Enable the generic_arg_infer Rust feature
- Extend Bounded with shift operations, single-bit bool
conversion, and const get()
Misc:
- Make deferred_probe_timeout default a Kconfig option
- Drop auxiliary_dev_pm_ops; the PM core falls back to driver PM
callbacks when no bus type PM ops are set
- Add conditional guard support for device_lock()
- Add ksysfs.c to the DRIVER CORE MAINTAINERS entry
- Fix kernel-doc warnings in base.h
- Fix stale reference to memory_block_add_nid() in documentation"

Merge tag 'libcrypto-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiggers/linux
Pull crypto library updates from Eric Biggers:
- Migrate more hash algorithms from the traditional crypto subsystem to
lib/crypto/
Like the algorithms migrated earlier (e.g. SHA-*), this simplifies
the implementations, improves performance, enables further
simplifications in calling code, and solves various other issues:
- AES CBC-based MACs (AES-CMAC, AES-XCBC-MAC, and AES-CBC-MAC)
- Support these algorithms in lib/crypto/ using the AES library
and the existing arm64 assembly code
- Reimplement the traditional crypto API's "cmac(aes)",
"xcbc(aes)", and "cbcmac(aes)" on top of the library
- Convert mac80211 to use the AES-CMAC library. Note: several
other subsystems can use it too and will be converted later
- Drop the broken, nonstandard, and likely unused support for
"xcbc(aes)" with key lengths other than 128 bits
- Enable optimizations by default
- GHASH
- Migrate the standalone GHASH code into lib/crypto/
- Integrate the GHASH code more closely with the very similar
POLYVAL code, and improve the generic GHASH implementation to
resist cache-timing attacks and use much less memory
- Reimplement the AES-GCM library and the "gcm" crypto_aead
template on top of the GHASH library. Remove "ghash" from the
crypto_shash API, as it's no longer needed
- Enable optimizations by default
- SM3
- Migrate the kernel's existing SM3 code into lib/crypto/, and
reimplement the traditional crypto API's "sm3" on top of it
- I don't recommend using SM3, but this cleanup is worthwhile
to organize the code the same way as other algorithms
- Testing improvements:
- Add a KUnit test suite for each of the new library APIs
- Migrate the existing ChaCha20Poly1305 test to KUnit
- Make the KUnit all_tests.config enable all crypto library tests
- Move the test kconfig options to the Runtime Testing menu
- Other updates to arch-optimized crypto code:
- Optimize SHA-256 for Zhaoxin CPUs using the Padlock Hash Engine
- Remove some MD5 implementations that are no longer worth keeping
- Drop big endian and voluntary preemption support from the arm64
code, as those configurations are no longer supported on arm64
- Make jitterentropy and samples/tsm-mr use the crypto library APIs

samples/landlock: Add support for named UNIX domain socket restrictions
The access right for UNIX domain socket lookups is grouped with the read-write rights in the sample tool. Rationale: In the general case, any operations are possible through a UNIX domain socket, including data-mutating operations. Merge tag 'drm-rust-next-2026-03-30' of https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/rust/kernel into drm-next
DRM Rust changes for v7.1-rc1
- DMA:
- Rework the DMA coherent API: introduce Coherent<T> as a generalized
container for arbitrary types, replacing the slice-only
CoherentAllocation<T>. Add CoherentBox for memory initialization
before exposing a buffer to hardware (converting to Coherent when
ready), and CoherentHandle for allocations without kernel mapping.
- Add Coherent::init() / init_with_attrs() for one-shot initialization
via pin-init, and from-slice constructors for both Coherent and
CoherentBox
- Add uaccess write_dma() for copying from DMA buffers to userspace
and BinaryWriter support for Coherent<T>
- DRM:
- Add GPU buddy allocator abstraction
- Add DRM shmem GEM helper abstraction
- Allow drm::Device to dispatch work and delayed work items to driver
private data
- Add impl_aref_for_gem_obj!() macro to reduce GEM refcount
boilerplate, and introduce DriverObject::Args for constructor
context
- Add dma_resv_lock helper and raw_dma_resv() accessor on GEM objects
- Clean up imports across the DRM module
- I/O:
- Merged via a signed tag from the driver-core tree: register!() macro
and I/O infrastructure improvements (IoCapable refactor, RelaxedMmio
wrapper, IoLoc trait, generic accessors, write_reg /
LocatedRegister)
- Nova (Core):
- Fix and harden the GSP command queue: correct write pointer
advancing, empty slot handling, and ring buffer indexing; add mutex
locking and make Cmdq a pinned type; distinguish wait vs no-wait
commands
- Add support for large RPCs via continuation records, splitting
oversized commands across multiple queue slots
- Simplify GSP sequencer and message handling code: remove unused
trait and Display impls, derive Debug and Zeroable where applicable,
warn on unconsumed message data
- Refactor Falcon firmware handling: create DMA objects lazily, add
PIO upload support, and use the Generic Bootloader to boot FWSEC on
Turing
- Convert all register definitions (PMC, PBUS, PFB, GC6, FUSE, PDISP,
Falcon) to the kernel register!() macro; add bounded_enum macro to
define enums usable as register fields
- Migrate all DMA usage to the new Coherent, CoherentBox, and
CoherentHandle APIs
- Harden firmware parsing with checked arithmetic throughout FWSEC,
Booter, RISC-V parsing paths
- Add debugfs support for reading GSP-RM log buffers; replace
module_pci_driver!() with explicit module init to support
module-level debugfs setup
- Fix auxiliary device registration for multi-GPU systems
- Various cleanups: import style, firmware parsing refactoring,
framebuffer size logging
- Rust:
- Add interop::list module providing a C linked list interface
- Extend num::Bounded with shift operations, into_bool(), and const
get() to support register bitfield manipulation
- Enable the generic_arg_infer Rust feature and add EMSGSIZE error
code
- Tyr:
- Adopt vertical import style per kernel Rust guidelines
- Clarify driver/device type names and use DRM device type alias
consistently across the driver
- Fix GPU model/version decoding in GpuInfo
- Workqueue:
- Add ARef<T> support for work and delayed work

rust: dma: add zeroed constructor to Coherent
These constructors create a coherent container of a single object instead of slice. They are named `zeroed` and `zeroed_with_attrs` to emphasis that they are created initialized zeroed. It is intended that there'll be new constructors that take `PinInit` instead of zeroing. vfio: Adapt drivers to use the core helper vfio_check_precopy_ioctl
Introduce a core helper function for VFIO_MIG_GET_PRECOPY_INFO and adapt all drivers to use it. It centralizes the common code and ensures that output flags are cleared on entry, in case user opts in to VFIO_DEVICE_FEATURE_MIG_PRECOPY_INFOv2. This preventing any unintended echoing of userspace data back to userspace. vfio: mdev: replace mtty_dev->vd_class with a const struct class
The class_create() call has been deprecated in favor of class_register() as the driver core now allows for a struct class to be in read-only memory. Replace mtty_dev->vd_class with a const struct class and drop the class_create() call. Compile tested and found no errors/warns in dmesg after enabling CONFIG_VFIO and CONFIG_SAMPLE_VFIO_MDEV_MTTY.
