27bc50fc90 Merge tag 'mm-stable-2022-10-08' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm
Pull MM updates from Andrew Morton:

 - Yu Zhao's Multi-Gen LRU patches are here. They've been under test in
linux-next for a couple of months without, to my knowledge, any
negative reports (or any positive ones, come to that).

 - Also the Maple Tree from Liam Howlett. An overlapping range-based
tree for vmas. It it apparently slightly more efficient in its own
right, but is mainly targeted at enabling work to reduce mmap_lock
   contention.

Liam has identified a number of other tree users in the kernel which
could be beneficially onverted to mapletrees.

Yu Zhao has identified a hard-to-hit but "easy to fix" lockdep splat
at [1]. This has yet to be addressed due to Liam's unfortunately
timed vacation. He is now back and we'll get this fixed up.

 - Dmitry Vyukov introduces KMSAN: the Kernel Memory Sanitizer. It uses
clang-generated instrumentation to detect used-unintialized bugs down
   to the single bit level.

KMSAN keeps finding bugs. New ones, as well as the legacy ones.

 - Yang Shi adds a userspace mechanism (madvise) to induce a collapse of
   memory into THPs.

 - Zach O'Keefe has expanded Yang Shi's madvise(MADV_COLLAPSE) to
   support file/shmem-backed pages.

 - userfaultfd updates from Axel Rasmussen

 - zsmalloc cleanups from Alexey Romanov

 - cleanups from Miaohe Lin: vmscan, hugetlb_cgroup, hugetlb and
   memory-failure

 - Huang Ying adds enhancements to NUMA balancing memory tiering mode's
page promotion, with a new way of detecting hot pages.

 - memcg updates from Shakeel Butt: charging optimizations and reduced
   memory consumption.

 - memcg cleanups from Kairui Song.

 - memcg fixes and cleanups from Johannes Weiner.

 - Vishal Moola provides more folio conversions

 - Zhang Yi removed ll_rw_block() :(

 - migration enhancements from Peter Xu

 - migration error-path bugfixes from Huang Ying

 - Aneesh Kumar added ability for a device driver to alter the memory
tiering promotion paths. For optimizations by PMEM drivers, DRM
   drivers, etc.

 - vma merging improvements from Jakub Matěn.

 - NUMA hinting cleanups from David Hildenbrand.

 - xu xin added aditional userspace visibility into KSM merging
   activity.

 - THP & KSM code consolidation from Qi Zheng.

 - more folio work from Matthew Wilcox.

 - KASAN updates from Andrey Konovalov.

 - DAMON cleanups from Kaixu Xia.

 - DAMON work from SeongJae Park: fixes, cleanups.

 - hugetlb sysfs cleanups from Muchun Song.

 - Mike Kravetz fixes locking issues in hugetlbfs and in hugetlb core.

e55b9f9686 mm: memcontrol: drop dead CONFIG_MEMCG_SWAP config symbol
Since 2d1c498072 ("mm: memcontrol: make swap tracking an integral part
of memory control"), CONFIG_MEMCG_SWAP hasn't been a user-visible config
option anymore, it just means CONFIG_MEMCG && CONFIG_SWAP.

Update the sites accordingly and drop the symbol.

[ While touching the docs, remove two references to CONFIG_MEMCG_KMEM,
  which hasn't been a user-visible symbol for over half a decade. ]

02382aff72 powerpc/64: Remove PPC64 special case for cputime accounting default
Distro kernels tend to be moving to VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_GEN, and there
is not much reason why PPC64 should be special here. Remove the special
case and make the ppc64 and pseries defconfigs use GEN accounting
(others will use TICK, as-per Kconfig defaults).

VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_NATIVE does provide scaled vtime and stolen time
apportioned between system and user time, and vtime accounting is not
unconditionally enabled, and possibly other things. But it would be
better at this point to extend GEN to cover important missing features
rather than directing users back to a less used option.

1202cdd665 Remove DECnet support from kernel
DECnet is an obsolete network protocol that receives more attention
from kernel janitors than users. It belongs in computer protocol
history museum not in Linux kernel.

It has been "Orphaned" in kernel since 2010. The iproute2 support
for DECnet was dropped in 5.0 release. The documentation link on
Sourceforge says it is abandoned there as well.

Leave the UAPI alone to keep userspace programs compiling.
This means that there is still an empty neighbour table
for AF_DECNET.

The table of /proc/sys/net entries was updated to match
current directories and reformatted to be alphabetical.

92f89ec1b5 powerpc: Restore CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO in defconfigs
Commit f9b3cd2457 ("Kconfig.debug: make DEBUG_INFO selectable from a
choice") broke the selection of CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO by powerpc defconfigs.

It is now necessary to select one of the three DEBUG_INFO_DWARF*
options to get DEBUG_INFO enabled.

Replace DEBUG_INFO=y by DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT=y in all
defconfigs using the following command:

sed -i s/DEBUG_INFO=y/DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT=y/g `git grep -l DEBUG_INFO arch/powerpc/configs/`

32c53420d2 eth: de4x5: remove support for Generic DECchip & DIGITAL EtherWORKS PCI/EISA
Looks like almost all changes to this driver had been tree-wide
refactoring since git era begun. There is one commit from Al
15 years ago which could potentially be fixing a real bug.

The driver is using virt_to_bus() and is a real magnet for pointless
cleanups. It seems unlikely to have real users. Let's try to shed
this maintenance burden.

22887f319a powerpc/pseries: delete scanlog
Remove the pseries scanlog driver.

This code supports functions from Power4-era servers that are not present
on targets currently supported by arch/powerpc. System manuals from this
time have this description:

Scan Dump data is a set of chip data that the service processor gathers
after a system malfunction. It consists of chip scan rings, chip trace
arrays, and Scan COM (SCOM) registers. This data is stored in the
scan-log partition of the system’s Nonvolatile Random Access
  Memory (NVRAM).

PowerVM partition firmware development doesn't recognize the associated
function call or property, and they don't see any references to them in
their codebase. It seems to have been specific to non-virtualized pseries.

53944f171a mm: remove HARDENED_USERCOPY_FALLBACK
This has served its purpose and is no longer used. All usercopy
violations appear to have been handled by now, any remaining instances
(or new bugs) will cause copies to be rejected.

This isn't a direct revert of commit 2d891fbc3b ("usercopy: Allow
strict enforcement of whitelists"); since usercopy_fallback is
effectively 0, the fallback handling is removed too.

This also removes the usercopy_fallback module parameter on slab_common.

627e66f29a Merge changes from Paul Gortmaker
Merge the changes to retire the legacy WR sbc8548 and sbc8641 platforms
from Paul. These were sent as a pull request, but I rebased them onto
rc2 so as not to pull too many unrelated changes in to my next.

Description from Paul's pull request follows:

In v2.6.27 (2008, 917f0af9e5) the sbc8260 support was implicitly
retired by not being carried forward through the ppc --> powerpc
device tree transition.

Then, in v3.6 (2012, b048b4e17c) we retired the support for the
sbc8560 boards.

Next, in v4.18 (2017, 3bc6cf5a86) we retired the support for the
2006 vintage sbc834x boards.

The sbc8548 and sbc8641d boards were maybe 1-2 years newer than the
sbc834x boards, but it is also 3+ years later, so it makes sense to
now retire them as well - which is what is done here.

These two remaining WR boards were based on the Freescale MPC8548-CDS
and the MPC8641D-HPCN reference board implementations. Having had the
chance to use these and many other Fsl ref boards, I know this: The
Freescale reference boards were typically produced in limited quantity
and primarily available to BSP developers and hardware designers, and
not likely to have found a 2nd life with hobbyists and/or collectors.

It was good to have that BSP code subjected to mainline review and
hence also widely available back in the day. But given the above, we
should probably also be giving serious consideration to retiring
additional similar age/type reference board platforms as well.

I've always felt it is important for us to be proactive in retiring
old code, since it has a genuine non-zero carrying cost, as described
in the 930d52c012 merge log. But for the here and now, we just
clean up the remaining BSP code that I had added for SBC platforms.

d7c1814f2f powerpc: retire sbc8641d board support
The support was for this was added to mainline over 12 years ago, in
v2.6.26 [4e8aae89a3] just around the ppc --> powerpc migration.

I believe the board was introduced shortly after the sbc8548 board,
making it roughly a 14 year old platform - with the CPU speed and
memory size typical for that era.

I haven't had one of these boards for several years, and availability
was discontinued several years before that.

Given that, there is no point in adding a burden to testing coverage
that builds all possible defconfigs, so it makes sense to remove it.

Of course it will remain in the git history forever, for anyone who
happens to find a functional board and wants to tinker with it.

9a1762a4a4 powerpc/8xx: Update mpc885_ads_defconfig to improve CI
mpc885_ads_defconfig is used by several CI robots.

A few functionnalities are specific to 8xx and are not covered
by other default configuration, so improve build test coverage
by adding them to mpc885_ads_defconfig.

8xx is the only platform supporting 16k page size in addition
to 4k page size. Considering that 4k page size is widely tested
by other configurations, lets make 16k pages the selection for
8xx, as it has demonstrated in the past to be a weakness.

CONFIG_PIN_TLB is specific to 8xx, select it as it mainly adds
code with removing much.

CONFIG_BDI_SWITCH is specific to PPC32 and adds codes.

CONFIG_PPC_PTDUMP has specific part for 8xx.

CONFIG_MODULES has specific handling for 8xx.

CONFIG_SMC_UCODE_PATCH is specific to 8xx for loading microcode.

CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS has specific parts for 8xx.

CONFIG_MATH_EMULATION is used by 8xx.

CONFIG_STRICT_KERNEL_RWX has specificities for 8xx.

CONFIG_VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_NATIVE has specific parts for PPC32.

CONFIG_IPV6 has specificities for PPC32.

CONFIG_BPF_JIT has specificities for PPC32.

A few drivers are tightly linked to the 8xx:
- CONFIG_SPI_FSL_SPI
- CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_TALITOS
- CONFIG_8xxx_WDT
- CONFIG_8xx_GPIO
- CONFIG_PPC_EARLY_DEBUG_CPM

2907f851f6 xsysace: Remove SYSACE driver
Sysace IP is no longer used on Xilinx PowerPC 405/440 and Microblaze

quite a long time that's why remove it.

f76edd8f7c tty: cyclades, remove this orphan
The Cyclades driver was orphaned by commit d459883e6c (MAINTAINERS:
remove two dead e-mail) 13 years ago. Noone stepped up to take care of
them and to fix all the issues the driver has.

On the top of that, there is no way to obtain the firmware for Z cards
from the vendor as cyclades.com ceased to exist.

So it's time to drop the driver with all its traces.

Pull module updates from Jessica Yu:

 - Retire EXPORT_UNUSED_SYMBOL() and EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL_FUTURE(). These
export types were introduced between 2006 - 2008. All the of the
unused symbols have been long removed and gpl future symbols were
converted to gpl quite a long time ago, and I don't believe these
export types have been used ever since. So, I think it should be safe
to retire those export types now (Christoph Hellwig)

 - Refactor and clean up some aged code cruft in the module loader
   (Christoph Hellwig)

 - Build {,module_}kallsyms_on_each_symbol only when livepatching is
enabled, as it is the only caller (Christoph Hellwig)

 - Unexport find_module() and module_mutex and fix the last module
callers to not rely on these anymore. Make module_mutex internal to
   the module loader (Christoph Hellwig)

 - Harden ELF checks on module load and validate ELF structures before
checking the module signature (Frank van der Linden)

 - Fix undefined symbol warning for clang (Fangrui Song)

 - Fix smatch warning (Dan Carpenter)

Pull powerpc updates from Michael Ellerman:

 - A large series adding wrappers for our interrupt handlers, so that
irq/nmi/user tracking can be isolated in the wrappers rather than
   spread in each handler.

 - Conversion of the 32-bit syscall handling into C.

 - A series from Nick to streamline our TLB flushing when using the
   Radix MMU.

 - Switch to using queued spinlocks by default for 64-bit server CPUs.

 - A rework of our PCI probing so that it happens later in boot, when
   more generic infrastructure is available.

 - Two small fixes to allow 32-bit little-endian processes to run on
   64-bit kernels.

 - Other smaller features, fixes & cleanups.
