FPGA Manager changes for 5.9-rc1
Here is the (slightly larger than usual) patch set for the 5.9-rc1 merge
window.
DFL:
- Xu's changes add support for AFU interrupt handling and puts them to
use for error handling.
- Xu's other change also adds another device-id for the Intel FPGA PAC N3000.
- John's change converts from using get_user_pages() to
pin_user_pages().
- Gustavo's patch cleans up some of the allocation by using
struct_size().
Xilinx:
- Luca's changes clean up the xilinx-spi and xilinx-slave-serial drivers
and updates the comments and dt-bindings to reflect the fact it also
supports 7 series devices.
Core:
- Tom cleaned up the fpga-bridge / fpga-mgr core by removing some
dead-stores.
All patches have been reviewed on the mailing list, and have been in the
last few linux-next releases (as part of my for-next branch) without issues.

Instead of hard-coding the location of the L1 PM Substates capability based
on the Device ID, search for it in the extended capabilities list. This
works for any device, as long as it implements the L1 PM Substates
capability correctly, so it doesn't require maintenance as new devices are
added. No functional change intended.

rtsx_pci_read_config_dword() and similar wrappers around the PCI config
accessors add very little value, and they obscure the fact that often we
are accessing standard PCI registers that should be coordinated with the
PCI core.
Remove the wrappers and use the PCI config accessors directly. No
functional change intended.

Adds a method to select a suitable sink connected to a given source.
In cases where no sink is defined, the coresight_find_default_sink
routine can search from a given source, through the child connections
until a suitable sink is found.
The suitability is defined in by the sink coresight_dev_subtype on the
CoreSight device, and the distance from the source by counting
connections.
Higher value subtype is preferred - where these are equal, shorter
distance from source is used as a tie-break.
This allows for default sink to be discovered were none is specified
(e.g. perf command line)

Somehow the existing code is not aligned with the steps described in
the documentation, refactor code and make sure the register
programming sequences are correct. Also add missing power-up,
power-down and wake capabilities (the last two are used in follow-up
patches but introduced here for consistency).
Some of the SHIM registers exposed fields that are link specific, and
in addition some of the power-related registers (SPA/CPA) take time to
be updated. Uncontrolled access leads to timeouts or errors. Add a
mutex, shared by all links, so that all accesses to such registers are
serialized, and follow a pattern of read-modify-write.
This includes making sure SHIM_SYNC is programmed only once, before
the first master is powered on. We use a 'shim_mask' field, shared
between all links and protected by a mutex, to deal with power-up and
power-down sequences.
Note that the SYNCPRD value is tied only to the XTAL value and not the
current bus frequency or the frame rate.

Although mmiowb() is concerned only with serialising MMIO writes occuring
in contexts where a spinlock is held, the call to mmiowb_set_pending()
from the MMIO write accessors can occur in preemptible contexts, such
as during driver probe() functions where ordering between CPUs is not
usually a concern, assuming that the task migration path provides the
necessary ordering guarantees.
Unfortunately, the default implementation of mmiowb_set_pending() is not
preempt-safe, as it makes use of a a per-cpu variable to track its
internal state. This has been reported to generate the following splat
on riscv:

Although it's possible to fix the driver in this case, other splats have
been seen from other drivers, including the infamous 8250 UART, and so
it's better to address this problem in the mmiowb core itself.
Fix mmiowb_set_pending() by using the raw_cpu_ptr() to get at the mmiowb
state and then only updating the 'mmiowb_pending' field if we are not
preemptible (i.e. we have a non-zero nesting count).

Previous patch changed handling of remount/reconfigure to ignore all
options, including those that are unknown to the fuse kernel fs. This was
done for backward compatibility, but this likely only affects the old
mount(2) API.
The new fsconfig(2) based reconfiguration could possibly be improved. This
would make the new API less of a drop in replacement for the old, OTOH this
is a good chance to get rid of some weirdnesses in the old API.
Several other behaviors might make sense:
1) unknown options are rejected, known options are ignored
2) unknown options are rejected, known options are rejected if the value
is changed, allowed otherwise
3) all options are rejected
Prior to the backward compatibility fix to ignore all options all known
options were accepted (1), even if they change the value of a mount
parameter; fuse_reconfigure() does not look at the config values set by
fuse_parse_param().
To fix that we'd need to verify that the value provided is the same as set
in the initial configuration (2). The major drawback is that this is much
more complex than just rejecting all attempts at changing options (3);
i.e. all options signify initial configuration values and don't make sense
on reconfigure.
This patch opts for (3) with the rationale that no mount options are
reconfigurable in fuse.

Pull io_uring fixes from Jens Axboe:
- Fix memleak for error path in registered files (Yang)
- Export CQ overflow state in flags, necessary to fix a case where
liburing doesn't know if it needs to enter the kernel (Xiaoguang)
- Fix for a regression in when user memory is accounted freed, causing
issues with back-to-back ring exit + init if the ulimit -l setting is
very tight.

Pull in-kernel read and write op cleanups from Christoph Hellwig:
"Cleanup in-kernel read and write operations
Reshuffle the (__)kernel_read and (__)kernel_write helpers, and ensure
all users of in-kernel file I/O use them if they don't use iov_iter
based methods already.
The new WARN_ONs in combination with syzcaller already found a missing
input validation in 9p. The fix should be on your way through the
maintainer ASAP".

With the earlier patch in this series, all devices that deferred probe
due to fw_devlink_pause() will have their probes delayed till the
deferred probe thread is kicked off during late_initcall. This will also
affect all their consumers.
This delayed probing in unnecessary. So this patch just keeps track of
the devices that had their probe deferred due to fw_devlink_pause() and
attempts to probe them once during fw_devlink_resume().

vmw_vmci_defs.h is included by multiple source files. Some of which
do not make use of 'struct vmci_handle VMCI_ANON_SRC_HANDLE' rendering
it unused. Ensure the compiler knows that this is in fact intentional
by marking it as __maybe_unused. This fixes the following W=1 warnings:

include/uapi/linux/raw.h leaks CONFIG_MAX_RAW_DEVS to userspace.
Userspace programs cannot use MAX_RAW_MINORS since CONFIG_MAX_RAW_DEVS
is not available anyway.
Remove the MAX_RAW_MINORS definition from the exported header, and use
CONFIG_MAX_RAW_DEVS in drivers/char/raw.c
While I was here, I converted printk(KERN_WARNING ...) to pr_warn(...)
and stretched the warning message.

Until this commit the mainline kernel version (this version) of the
vboxguest module contained a bug where it defined
VBGL_IOCTL_VMMDEV_REQUEST_BIG and VBGL_IOCTL_LOG using
_IOC(_IOC_READ | _IOC_WRITE, 'V', ...) instead of
_IO(V, ...) as the out of tree VirtualBox upstream version does.
Since the VirtualBox userspace bits are always built against VirtualBox
upstream's headers, this means that so far the mainline kernel version
of the vboxguest module has been failing these 2 ioctls with -ENOTTY.
I guess that VBGL_IOCTL_VMMDEV_REQUEST_BIG is never used causing us to
not hit that one and sofar the vboxguest driver has failed to actually
log any log messages passed it through VBGL_IOCTL_LOG.
This commit changes the VBGL_IOCTL_VMMDEV_REQUEST_BIG and VBGL_IOCTL_LOG
defines to match the out of tree VirtualBox upstream vboxguest version,
while keeping compatibility with the old wrong request defines so as
to not break the kernel ABI in case someone has been using the old
request defines.
