This code was added with 34b31da486 ("phy: fixed_phy: Set supported
speed in phydev") 10 yrs ago. The commit message of this change
mentions a use case involving callback adjust_link of struct
dsa_switch_driver. This struct doesn't exist any longer, and in general
usage of the legacy fixed PHY has been removed from DSA with the switch
to phylink.
Note: Supported and advertised modes are now set by phy_probe() when
the fixed PHY is attached to the netdev and bound to the genphy driver.

fixed_phy_add() has a number of problems/disadvantages:
- It uses phy address 0 w/o checking whether a fixed phy with this
address exists already.
- A subsequent call to fixed_phy_register() would also use phy address 0,
because fixed_phy_add() doesn't mark it as used.
- fixed_phy_add() is used from platform code, therefore requires that
fixed_phy code is built-in.
Now that for the only two users (coldfire/5272 and bcm47xx) fixed_phy
creation has been moved to the respective ethernet driver (fec, b44),
we can remove fixed_phy_add().

The only user of fixed_phy gpio functionality was here:
arch/arm/boot/dts/nxp/vf/vf610-zii-dev-rev-b.dts
Support for the switch on this board was migrated to phylink
(DSA - mv88e6xxx) years ago, so the functionality is unused now.
Therefore remove it.
Note: There is a very small risk that there's out-of-tree users
who use link gpio with a switch chip not handled by DSA.
However we care about in-tree device trees only.

fixed_phy_register() creates and registers the phy_device. To be
symmetric, we should not only unregister, but also free the phy_device
in fixed_phy_unregister(). This allows to simplify code in users.
Note wrt of_phy_deregister_fixed_link():
put_device(&phydev->mdio.dev) and phy_device_free(phydev) are identical.

We have only two users of fixed_phy_add(), both use address 0 and
ignore the return value. So simplify fixed_phy_add() accordingly.
Whilst at it, constify the fixed_phy_status configs.
Note:
fixed_phy_add() is a legacy function which shouldn't be used in new
code, as it's use may be problematic:
- No check whether a fixed phy exists already at the given address
- If fixed_phy_register() is called afterwards by any other driver,
then it will also use phy_addr 0, because fixed_phy_add() ignores
the ida which manages address assignment
Drivers using a fixed phy created by fixed_phy_add() in platform code,
should dynamically create a fixed phy with fixed_phy_register()
instead.

A struct mii_bus doesn't need a parent, so we can simplify the code and
remove using a faux device. Only difference is the following in sysfs
under /sys/class/mdio_bus:

The net fixed phy driver does not require the creation of a platform
device. Originally, this approach was chosen for simplicity when the
driver was first implemented.
With the introduction of the lightweight faux device interface, we now
have a more appropriate alternative. Migrate the device to utilize the
faux bus, given that the platform device it previously created was not
a real one anyway. This will get rid of the fake platform device.

There's no point probing for phys on this artificial bus, so we can
save a little bit of boot time by telling mdiobus_register() not to do
that.
This doesn't have any functional change, since, at this point,
fixed_mdio_read() returns 0xffff for all addresses/registers, so
mdiobus_scan() -> get_phy_device() -> get_phy_c22_id()
will return -ENODEV, which is just ignored.

Commit bf7afb29d5 ("phy: improve safety of fixed-phy MII register
reading") protected the fixed PHY status with a sequence counter.
Two years later, commit d2b977939b ("net: phy: fixed-phy: remove
fixed_phy_update_state()") removed the sequence counter's write side
critical section -- neutralizing its read side retry loop.
Remove the unused seqcount.

gpiod_get_from_of_node() is being retired in favor of
[devm_]fwnode_gpiod_get_index(), that behaves similar to
[devm_]gpiod_get_index(), but can work with arbitrary firmware node. It
will also be able to support secondary software nodes.
Let's switch this driver over.

If we fail to locate GPIO for any reason other than deferral or
not-found-GPIO, we try to print device tree node info, however if might
be freed already as we called of_node_put() on it.

It is perfectly ok to not have an gpio attached to the fixed-link node. So
the driver should not throw an error message when the gpio is missing.

When probing the phy device we set sym and asym pause in the "supported"
bitmap (unless the PHY tells us otherwise). However we don't know yet
whether the MAC supports pause. Simply copying phy->supported to
phy->advertising will trigger advertising pause, and that's not
what we want. Therefore add phy_advertise_supported() that copies all
modes but doesn't touch the pause bits.
In phy_support_(a)sym_pause we shouldn't set any bits in the supported
bitmap because we may set a bit the PHY intentionally disabled.
Effective pause support should be the AND-combined PHY and MAC pause
capabilities. If the MAC supports everything, then it's only relevant
what the PHY supports. If MAC supports sym pause only, then we have to
clear the asym bit in phydev->supported.
Copy the pause flags only and don't touch the modes, because a driver
may have intentionally removed a mode from phydev->advertising.

With the switch to phy_resolve_aneg_linkmode() we don't read from the
chip any longer what is advertised but use phydev->advertising directly.
For a fixed phy however this bitmap is empty so far, what results in
no common mode being found. This breaks DSA. Fix this by advertising
everything that is supported. For a normal phy this done by phy_probe().

Add fixed_phy_register_with_gpiod() API. It lets users create a
fixed_phy instance that uses a GPIO descriptor which was obtained
externally e.g. through platform data.
This enables platform devices (non-DT based) to use GPIOs for link
status.

All users of the fixed_phy_add() pass -1 as GPIO number
to the fixed phy driver, and all users of fixed_phy_register()
pass -1 as GPIO number as well, except for the device
tree MDIO bus.
Any new users should create a proper device and pass the
GPIO as a descriptor associated with the device so delete
the GPIO argument from the calls and drop the code looking
requesting a GPIO in fixed_phy_add().
In fixed phy_register(), investigate the "fixed-link"
node and pick the GPIO descriptor from "link-gpios" if
this property exists. Move the corresponding code out
of of_mdio.c as the fixed phy code anyways requires
OF to be in use.

There are a few MAC/PHYs combinations which now support > 1Gbps. These
may need to make use of link modes with bits > 31. Thus their
supported PHY features or advertised features cannot be implemented
using the current bitmap in a u32. Convert to using a linkmode bitmap,
which can support all the currently devices link modes, and is future
proof as more modes are added.

If we have a system which uses fixed PHY devices and calls
fixed_phy_register() then fixed_phy_unregister() we can exhaust the
number of fixed PHYs available after a while, since we keep incrementing
the variable phy_fixed_addr, but we never decrement it.
This patch fixes that by converting the fixed PHY allocation to using
IDA, which takes care of the allocation/dealloaction of the PHY
addresses for us.

There is no prevention of a concurrent call to both fixed_mdio_read()
and fixed_phy_update_state(), which can result in the state being
modified while it's being inspected. Fix this by using a seqcount
to detect modifications, and memcpy()ing the state.
We remain slightly naughty here, calling link_update() and updating
the link status within the read-side loop - which would need rework
of the design to change.

Generate software phy registers as and when requested, rather than
duplicating the state in fixed_phy. This allows us to eliminate
the duplicate storage of of the same data, which is only different
in format.
As fixed_phy_update_regs() no longer updates register state, rename
it to fixed_phy_update().
