effe957c6b libperf cpumap: Replace usage of perf_cpu_map__new(NULL) with perf_cpu_map__new_online_cpus()
Passing NULL to perf_cpu_map__new() performs
perf_cpu_map__new_online_cpus(), just directly call
perf_cpu_map__new_online_cpus() to be more intention revealing.

923ca62a7b libperf cpumap: Rename perf_cpu_map__empty() to perf_cpu_map__has_any_cpu_or_is_empty()
The name perf_cpu_map_empty is misleading as true is also returned
when the map contains an "any" CPU (aka dummy) map.

Rename to perf_cpu_map__has_any_cpu_or_is_empty(), later changes will
(re)introduce perf_cpu_map__empty() and perf_cpu_map__has_any_cpu().

0197da7aff perf pmu: Lazily compute default config
The default config is computed during creation of the PMU and may do
things like scanning sysfs, when the PMU may just be used as part of
scanning. Change default_config to perf_event_attr_init_default, a
callback that is used when a default config needs initializing. This
avoids holding onto the memory for a perf_event_attr and copying.

On a tigerlake laptop running the pmu-scan benchmark:

Before:
Running 'internals/pmu-scan' benchmark:
Computing performance of sysfs PMU event scan for 100 times
  Average core PMU scanning took: 28.780 usec (+- 0.503 usec)
  Average PMU scanning took: 283.480 usec (+- 18.471 usec)
Number of openat syscalls: 30,227

After:
Running 'internals/pmu-scan' benchmark:
Computing performance of sysfs PMU event scan for 100 times
  Average core PMU scanning took: 27.880 usec (+- 0.169 usec)
  Average PMU scanning took: 245.260 usec (+- 15.758 usec)
Number of openat syscalls: 28,914

Over 3 runs it is a nearly 12% reduction in execution time and a 4.3%
of openat calls.

105e5b433e perf pmus: Simplify perf_pmus__find_core_pmu()
Currently the while loop always either exits on the first iteration with
a core PMU, or exits with NULL on heterogeneous systems or when not all
CPUs are online.

Both of the latter behaviors are undesirable for platforms other than
Arm so simplify it to always return the first core PMU, or NULL if none
exist.

This behavior was depended on by the Arm version of
pmu_metrics_table__find(), so the logic has been moved there instead.

3d0f5f456a perf pmu: Move pmu__find_core_pmu() to pmus.c
pmu__find_core_pmu() more logically belongs in pmus.c because it
iterates over all PMUs, so move it to pmus.c

At the same time rename it to perf_pmus__find_core_pmu() to match the
naming convention in this file.

list_prepare_entry() can't be used in perf_pmus__scan_core() anymore now
that it's called from the same compilation unit. This is with -O2
(specifically -O1 -ftree-vrp -finline-functions
-finline-small-functions) which allow the bounds of the array
access to be determined at compile time. list_prepare_entry() subtracts
the offset of the 'list' member in struct perf_pmu from &core_pmus,
which isn't a struct perf_pmu. The compiler sees that pmu results in
&core_pmus - 8 and refuses to compile. At runtime this works because
list_for_each_entry_continue() always adds the offset back again before
dereferencing ->next, but it's technically undefined behavior. With
-fsanitize=undefined an additional warning is generated.

Using list_first_entry_or_null() to get the first entry here avoids
doing &core_pmus - 8 but has the same result and fixes both the compile
warning and the undefined behavior warning. There are other uses of
list_prepare_entry() in pmus.c, but the compiler doesn't seem to be
able to see that they can also be called with &core_pmus, so I won't
change any at this time.

c091ee9089 perf pmu: Remove logic for PMU name being NULL
The PMU name could be NULL in the case of the fake_pmu. Initialize the
name for the fake_pmu to "fake" so that all other logic can assume it
is initialized. Add a const to the type of name so that a literal can
be used to avoid additional initialization code. Propagate the cost
through related routines and remove now unnecessary "(char *)"
casts. Doing this located a bug in builtin-list for the pmu_glob that
was missing a strdup.

9d5da30e4a perf jevents: Add a new expression builtin strcmp_cpuid_str()
This will allow writing formulas that are conditional on a specific
CPU type or CPU version. It calls through to the existing
strcmp_cpuid_str() function in Perf which has a default weak version,
and an arch specific version for x86 and arm64.

The function takes an 'ID' type value, which is a string. But in this
case Arm CPU IDs are hex numbers prefixed with '0x'. metric.py
assumes strings are only used by event names, and that they can't start
with a number ('0'), so an additional change has to be made to the
regex to convert hex numbers back to 'ID' types.

c3e1e8cf00 perf arm64: Allow version comparisons of CPU IDs
Currently variant and revision fields are masked out of the MIDR so
it's not possible to compare different versions of the same CPU.
In a later commit a workaround will be removed just for N2 r0p3, so
enable comparisons on version.

This has the side effect of changing the MIDR stored in the header of
the perf.data file to no longer have masked version fields. It also
affects the lookups in mapfile.csv, but as that currently only has
zeroed version fields, it has no actual effect. The mapfile.csv
documentation also states to zero the version fields, so unless this
isn't done it will continue to have no effect.

There is an existing weak default strcmp_cpuid_str() function, and an
x86 version. This adds another version for arm64.

Here it includes architecture specific header, for example, if we build
arm64 target, the header tools/perf/arch/arm64/include/perf_regs.h is
included.

We use this implicit way to include architecture specific header, which
is not directive; furthermore, util/perf_regs.c is coupled with the
architecture specific definitions.

This patch moves out arch specific header from util/perf_regs.h for
generalizing the 'util' folder, as a result, the source files in 'arch'
folder explicitly include architecture's perf_regs.h.

856caabf72 perf parse-regs: Remove PERF_REGS_{MAX|MASK} from common code
The macros PERF_REGS_MAX and PERF_REGS_MASK are architecture specific,
let's remove them from the common file util/perf_regs.c.

As a side effect, the weak functions arch__intr_reg_mask() and
arch__user_reg_mask() just return zeros, every arch defines its own
functions in the 'arch' folder for returning right values.

Note, we don't need to return intr/user register masks dynamically, this
is because these two functions are invoked during recording phase but
not decoding phase, they are always invoked on the native environment,
thus we don't need to parse them dynamically.

9754353d0a perf pmu arm64: Fix reading the PMU cpu slots in sysfs
Commit f8ad6018ce ("perf pmu: Remove duplication around
EVENT_SOURCE_DEVICE_PATH") uses sysfs__read_ull() to read a full sysfs
path, which will never succeeds as it already comes with the sysfs mount
point in it, which sysfs__read_ull() will add again.

Fix it by reading the file using filename__read_ull(), that will not add
the sysfs mount point.

ee84a3032b perf thread: Add accessor functions for thread
Using accessors will make it easier to add reference count checking in
later patches.

Committer notes:

thread->nsinfo wasn't wrapped as it is used together with
nsinfo__zput(), where does a trick to set the field with a refcount
being dropped to NULL, and that doesn't work well with using
thread__nsinfo(thread), that loses the &thread->nsinfo pointer.

When refcount checking is added to 'struct thread', later in this
series, nsinfo__zput(RC_CHK_ACCESS(thread)->nsinfo) will be used to
check the thread pointer.

d6e1cc6b72 perf arm64: Handle __NR3264_ prefixed syscall number
After commit 9854e7ad35 ("perf arm64: Simplify mksyscalltbl"),
in the generated syscall table file syscalls.c, there exist some
__NR3264_ prefixed syscall numbers such as [__NR3264_ftruncate],
it looks like not so good, just do some small filter operations
to handle __NR3264_ prefixed syscall number as a digital number.

Without this patch:

  [__NR3264_ftruncate] = "ftruncate",

With this patch:

  [46] = "ftruncate",

9d6a1df9b2 perf pmus: Allow just core PMU scanning
Scanning all PMUs is expensive as all PMUs sysfs entries are loaded,
benchmarking shows more than 4x the cost:

```
$ perf bench internals pmu-scan -i 1000
Computing performance of sysfs PMU event scan for 1000 times
  Average core PMU scanning took: 989.231 usec (+- 1.535 usec)
  Average PMU scanning took: 4309.425 usec (+- 74.322 usec)
```

Add new perf_pmus__scan_core routine that scans just core
PMUs. Replace perf_pmus__scan calls with perf_pmus__scan_core when
non-core PMUs are being ignored.

2d31e0bff2 perf kvm: Use macro to replace variable 'decode_str_len'
The variable 'decode_str_len' defines the string length for KVM event
name and every arch defines its own values.

This introduces complexity that the variable definition are spreading in
multiple source files under arch folder.  This patch refactors code to
use a macro KVM_EVENT_NAME_LEN to define event name length and thus
remove the definitions in arch files.

f8ea2c1524 perf pmu-events: Introduce pmu_metrics_table
Add a metrics table that is just a cast from pmu_events_table. This
changes the APIs so that event and metric usage of the underlying
table is different. For the no jevents case the tables are already
separate, later changes will separate the tables for the jevents case.

96d2a74618 perf pmu-events: Separate the metrics from events for no jevents
Separate the event and metric table when building without jevents. Add
find_core_metrics_table and perf_pmu__find_metrics_table while
renaming existing utilities to be event specific, so that users can

f8ad6018ce perf pmu: Remove duplication around EVENT_SOURCE_DEVICE_PATH
The pattern for accessing EVENT_SOURCE_DEVICE_PATH is duplicated in a
few places, so add two utility functions to cover it. Also just use
perf_pmu__scan_file() instead of pmu_type() which already does the same
thing.

acef233b7c perf pmu: Add #slots literal support for arm64
The slots in each architecture may be different, so add #slots literal
to obtain the slots of different architectures, and the #slots can be
applied in the metric. Currently, The #slots just support for arm64,
and other architectures will return NAN.

On arm64, the value of slots is from the register PMMIR_EL1.SLOT, which
I can read in /sys/bus/event_source/device/armv8_pmuv3_*/caps/slots.
PMMIR_EL1.SLOT might read as zero if the PMU version is lower than
ID_AA64DFR0_EL1_PMUVer_V3P4 or the STALL_SLOT event is not implemented.

9854e7ad35 perf arm64: Simplify mksyscalltbl
This patch isn't intended to have any effect on the compiled code.  It
just removes one level of indirection: calling the *host* compiler to
build and then run a program that just printf:s the numerical entries of
the syscall-table.  In other words, the generated syscalls.c changes
from:

	[46] = "ftruncate",
to:
	[__NR3264_ftruncate] = "ftruncate",

The latter is as good as the former to the user of perf, and this can be
done directly by the shell-script.  The syscalls defined as non-literal
values (like "#define __NR_ftruncate __NR3264_ftruncate") are trivially
resolved at compile-time without namespace-leaking and/or collision for
its sole user, perf/util/syscalltbl.c, that just #includes the generated
file.  A future "-mabi=32" support would probably have to handle this
differently, but that is a pre-existing problem not affected by this
simplification.

Calling the *host* compiler only complicates things and accidentally can
get a completely wrong set of files and syscall numbers, see earlier
commits.  Note that the script parameter hostcc is now unused.

At the time of this patch, powerpc (the origin, see comments), and also
e.g. x86 has moved on, from filtering "gcc -dM -E" output to reading
separate specific text-file, a table of syscall numbers.  IMHO should
arm64 consider adopting this.

378ef0f5d9 perf build: Use libtraceevent from the system
Remove the LIBTRACEEVENT_DYNAMIC and LIBTRACEFS_DYNAMIC make command
line variables.

If libtraceevent isn't installed or NO_LIBTRACEEVENT=1 is passed to the
build, don't compile in libtraceevent and libtracefs support.

This also disables CONFIG_TRACE that controls "perf trace".

CONFIG_LIBTRACEEVENT is used to control enablement in Build/Makefiles,
HAVE_LIBTRACEEVENT is used in C code.

Without HAVE_LIBTRACEEVENT tracepoints are disabled and as such the
commands kmem, kwork, lock, sched and timechart are removed.  The
majority of commands continue to work including "perf test".

Had to tweak tools/perf/util/setup.py to make sure the python binding
shared object links with libtraceevent if -DHAVE_LIBTRACEEVENT is
present in CFLAGS.

Building with NO_LIBTRACEEVENT=1 uncovered some more build failures:

- Make building of data-convert-bt.c to CONFIG_LIBTRACEEVENT=y

- perf-$(CONFIG_LIBTRACEEVENT) += scripts/

- bpf_kwork.o needs also to be dependent on CONFIG_LIBTRACEEVENT=y

- The python binding needed some fixups and util/trace-event.c can't be
  built and linked with the python binding shared object, so remove it
  in tools/perf/util/setup.py and exclude it from the list of
  dependencies in the python/perf.so Makefile.perf target.

Building without libtraceevent-devel installed uncovered more build
failures:

- The python binding tools/perf/util/python.c was assuming that
  traceevent/parse-events.h was always available, which was the case
  when we defaulted to using the in-kernel tools/lib/traceevent/ files,
  now we need to enclose it under ifdef HAVE_LIBTRACEEVENT, just like
  the other parts of it that deal with tracepoints.

- We have to ifdef the rules in the Build files with
  CONFIG_LIBTRACEEVENT=y to build builtin-trace.c and
  tools/perf/trace/beauty/ as we only ifdef setting CONFIG_TRACE=y when
  setting NO_LIBTRACEEVENT=1 in the make command line, not when we don't
  detect libtraceevent-devel installed in the system. Simplification here
  to avoid these two ways of disabling builtin-trace.c and not having
  CONFIG_TRACE=y when libtraceevent-devel isn't installed is the clean
  way.

7e8e5e8797 perf arm64: Fix mksyscalltbl, don't lose syscalls due to sort -nu
When using "sort -nu", arm64 syscalls were lost.  That is, the io_setup
syscall (number 0) and all but one (typically ftruncate; 64) of the
syscalls that are defined symbolically (like "#define __NR_ftruncate
__NR3264_ftruncate") at the point where "sort" is applied.

This creation-of-syscalls.c-scheme is, judging from comments,
copy-pasted from powerpc, and worked there because at the time, its
tools/arch/powerpc/include/uapi/asm/unistd.h had *literals*, like
"#define __NR_ftruncate 93".

With sort being numeric and the non-numeric key effectively evaluating
to 0, the sort option "-u" means these "duplicates" are removed.
There's no need to remove syscall lines with duplicate numbers for arm64
because there are none, so let's fix that by just losing the "-u".
Having the table numerically sorted on syscall-number for the rest of
the syscalls looks nice, so keep the "-n".

eeac773041 perf pmu-events: Avoid passing pmu_events_map
Preparation for hiding pmu_events_map as an implementation detail. While
the map is passed, the table of events is all that is normally wanted.

While modifying the function's types, rename pmu_events_map__find to
pmu_events_table__find to match later encapsulation. Similarly rename
pmu_add_cpu_aliases_map to pmu_add_cpu_aliases_table.

62e6eb8d54 perf mem: Trace physical address for Arm SPE events
Currently, Arm SPE events don't trace physical address, therefore, the
field 'phys_addr' is always zero in synthesized memory samples.  This
leads to perf c2c tool cannot locate the memory node for samples.

This patch enables configuration 'pa_enable' for Arm SPE events, so the
physical address packet can be traced, finally this can allow perf c2c
tool to locate properly for memory node.

2be00431c5 perf tools arm64: Add support for VG register
Add the name of the VG register so it can be used in --user-regs

The event will fail to open if the register is requested but not
available so only add it to the mask if the kernel supports sve and also
if it supports that specific register.

Committer notes:

Add conditional definition of HWCAP_SVE, as suggested by Leo Yan, to
build on older systems where this is not available in the system
headers.

d511578b9d perf unwind arm64: Decouple Libunwind register names from Perf
DWARF register numbers and real register numbers on aarch64 are
equivalent. Remove the references to the register names from Libunwind
so that new registers are supported without having to add build time
feature checks for each new register.

The unwinder won't ask for a register that it doesn't know about and
Perf will already report an error for an unknown or unrecorded register
in the perf_reg_value() function so extra validation isn't needed.

After this change the new VG register can be read by libunwind.

ffab487052 perf: arm-spe: Fix perf report --mem-mode
Since commit bb30acae4c ("perf report: Bail out --mem-mode if mem
info is not available") "perf mem report" and "perf report --mem-mode"
don't allow opening the file unless one of the events has
PERF_SAMPLE_DATA_SRC set.

SPE doesn't have this set even though synthetic memory data is generated
after it is decoded. Fix this issue by setting DATA_SRC on SPE events.
This has no effect on the data collected because the SPE driver doesn't
do anything with that flag and doesn't generate samples.
